Update: This morning at 10:16 AM, MPD officers were dispatched to the 6000 Block of Park View Drive in response to a domestic disturbance. After arriving and completing their initial investigation, officers determined that an assault had occurred and the suspect inside the home had committed additional felony offenses. The subject refused to come out of the location when directed, so MPD officers that also serve as trained members of the Southern Regional Response Group Special Response Team entered the location and executed the warrants associated with the call. The subject was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing, but the area has been cleared.

Police activity in the 6000 Block of Park View Drive. There is no active risk to the public at this time. We will send updates as the situation develops.

On Thursday, in conjunction with , we held a small, private ceremony in the Memorial Plaza at the Midlothian Public Safety Center to recognize the ultimate sacrifice of our three fallen officers. A single rose was placed in honor of:

• Midlothian City Marshal Clark Blair - End of Watch May 1, 1916
• Midlothian Police Officer George Raffield - End of Watch October 23, 1987
• Midlothian Police Officer Heather Phares – End of watch April 21, 2014

Chief of Police Carl Smith, Chaplain Larry Atchley, and Justin Coffman, Mayor of Midlothian Tx offered words of remembrance and encouragement to our staff.

Afterwards, at our monthly Supervisor’s Meeting, we recognized some of the outstanding work being done in our Agency. The Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch Center was honored as Agency of the Year by the North Central Texas Emergency Communications District (NCT9-1-1). According to NCT 9-1-1, the Agency of the Year Award is given to a communications team whose unwavering commitment to their community demonstrates exceptional partnership and responsiveness, and proactive involvement with other communications professionals. NEED was specifically cited for being “instrumental in supporting multiple pilot projects, generously allowing NCT9-1-1 to use their facility and resources to prepare for implementation, and consistently maintaining full compliance during site visits. Their reliability, professionalism, and dedication make them highly deserving of this recognition.”

Our Victims’ Advocate Coordinator, Jamie M. Singleton, was presented with the Department’s Commendation Award for planning and executing the 2026 Mental Health Summit. The Summit brought together law enforcement professionals, judicial personnel, behavioral health providers, educators, and community advocates for a day of networking and training. Ms. Singleton was responsible for coordination of this large‑scale community initiative, including securing vendors, organizing and distributing door prizes, and ensuring food service operations. Her logistical expertise and attention to detail were evident in every facet of the event. She dedicated countless hours preparing for the event, all while maintaining her vital day‑to‑day responsibilities within the Crisis Intervention Unit.

Please help us congratulate these dedicated employees who work tirelessly in making our community a great, safe, place to live!

Challenge coins are small medallions that represent an achievement and can be used to symbolize a special event. They are also given as a token of appreciation and recognition.

Today at Heritage our SRO’s presented the HHS challenge coin to three Jaguar Seniors. These Seniors each faced their own unique set of circumstances and have overcome adversities in their lives to achieve this milestone.

We are proud of the achievements they have accomplished and look forward to their future success.

As always, everyday is a great day to be a Heritage Jaguar!

The Midlothian Police Department was honored today by the family of fallen officer Cooper Dawson. Officer Dawson served with the Greenville Police Department and was killed in the line of duty in 2024.

Officer Dawson’s family are residents of Midlothian and have strong ties to our community. They dropped by with lunch for our officers today in remembrance of . The Dawson family toured the new Public Safety Center and Midlothian Chief of Police Carl Smith presented them with commemorative Midlothian Police challenge coins.

On November 25, 2024, Officer Dawson was on patrol in Greenville when he was ambushed while conducting a traffic stop. Despite being shot several times, he was able to return fire and strike the suspect. Officer Dawson was married with three children and died less than a month before his 28th birthday. He joined the Greenville Police Department in April of 2023 after seven years with the Garland Police Department. Officer Dawson also served his country as a member of the Army National Guard.

Thank you to the Dawson family for allowing us to share in the memory of their brave loved one.
