Midland ranks #2 in the nation for nonfarm employment growth!

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Midland MSA recorded 3.3% employment growth from August 2025 to August 2026, adding 4,100 jobs over the past year. 💼 That’s three times the Texas average of 1.0%.

The Midland Veterinary & Surgical Diagnostic Hospital is bringing expanded emergency and specialized care to West Texas! 🐾🩺

The 8,000 square foot facility will provide advanced diagnostic tools, emergency care, and surgical services, including the area’s first dedicated pet MRI machine.

This project will create at least 32 full-time jobs, including five veterinarians, while helping meet the needs of pet owners across the Permian Basin.

How exciting! 🚀🌌

🚀 From the classroom to the International Space Station! Five Midland ISD students have earned the opportunity to send their experiments to space through the Higher Orbits Go for Launch Midland Artemis Series!

Congratulations to Jeremiah Teller and Jerman Hargrove of Goddard Junior High, Zoey Roper and Aaron White of Midland Freshman, and Eva Estrada of Early College High School. Their experiments are tentatively scheduled to launch to the International Space Station in late spring 2027.

This opportunity is made possible through a partnership between Midland ISD, the Midland Development Corporation, and Chevron, creating hands-on STEM experiences that allow students to explore, innovate, and apply their learning beyond the classroom.

Midland students are taking their ideas to space! 🚀

Through the Higher Orbits Go for Launch! Midland Artemis series, students participated in hands-on STEM activities, explored space science, and developed experiments with real-world challenges.

Five MISD students that participated in the past series have been named winners and will have the opportunity to prepare their experiments for flight to the International Space Station, with launch tentatively scheduled for spring 2027!

MDC is proud to be a partner in this program alongside MISD and Chevron, helping create opportunities for students to explore STEM, pursue their ideas, and be part of the future of space exploration. 🌎🌌
