MIDLAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WARNS RESIDENTS OF FRAUDULENT PHONE CALLS IMPERSONATING VETERANS AFFAIRS EMPLOYEE

MIDLAND, MI – The Midland County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of fraudulent phone calls involving an individual falsely claiming to be Midland County Veterans Affairs employee Bruce Hernandez.

According to reports received by the Sheriff’s Office, residents have stated they were contacted by someone identifying themselves as Bruce Hernandez and were asked to provide personal and financial information. In addition, some residents received harassing or concerning communications from the caller.

Investigators have determined that the calls originated from a spoofed or fraudulent phone number that is not associated with the official Midland County Veterans Affairs Office. Residents should be aware that caller ID information can be manipulated and should not rely solely on the phone number displayed when verifying a caller’s identity.

Residents are reminded to use caution when receiving unsolicited phone calls requesting personal, financial, or sensitive information. Never provide Social Security numbers, banking information, account details, or other personal information unless you have independently verified the identity of the caller.

Anyone who receives one of these calls or believes they may have been targeted is encouraged to contact the Midland County Sheriff’s Office and report the incident.

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this matter and appreciates the public’s assistance and vigilance.

Earlier this week participants in the Midland County Jail’s new Recovery Pod Program were issued program T-shirts — another meaningful step in building unity, accountability, and purpose within the pod. The shirts were donated by a local business owner.

The shirts symbolize commitment to recovery and positive change. Participants are permitted to wear the T-shirts within the housing unit as part of the program experience.

We are proud to continue supporting opportunities that encourage growth, connection, and recovery.
