When our community hurts, people step forward.

Today, members of the Midland Fire Recruit Class rolled up their sleeves and donated blood at Midland Memorial Hospital in response to yesterday’s tragedy.

No one asked them to do it. No one required it. They simply saw a need and answered the call.

Their actions are a reminder that service begins long before a badge is pinned on a uniform. We are grateful for their compassion, proud of their character, and thankful for their commitment to Midland.

A statement from Mayor Blong:

“Governor Abbott called me last night to check on Midland and express his condolences to our community. He has also authorized flags in Midland to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the victims of yesterday's horrific tragedy.

The City Council and I are asking Midland residents, businesses, and organizations to lower your flags through next week starting today, June 13, and join us in honoring the victims. Ed Scott and everyone affected by the events of June 12 deserve to be honored.

I also want to recognize the many first responders and medical personnel who answered the call yesterday. It was an incredible outpouring of support and we are grateful for every one of them.

This is one small way our community can say together that we remember, we grieve, and we do not move on quickly from something this painful.

Please keep the families in your prayers.”

Ed Scott was a cherished member of our City of Midland family.

Please keep the Scott family in your prayers tonight. Give them the space, grace, and support they need during this unimaginable time.

We also invite our community to come together in prayer at Centennial Park at 7:30 p.m. tonight as we lift up the Scott family and our entire Midland community.
