May 6th is the last day of the CT legislative session! The SJA lays out a clear process for survivors to seek sentencing relief. Not only will they need credible documentary proof that they are a survivor, but they must also prove to the court by clear and convincing evidence that their abuse was a significant contributing factor to the crime. Support HB 5306 and a fair, equitable sentencing framework for survivors! .

Connecticut has 70+ mandatory minimum sentences that apply regardless of the circumstances of the crime, requiring the court to minimize or negate the role abuse played in a crime committed by a survivor of gender-based violence. Support HB 5306 and trauma-informed sentencing for survivors!

📣SB 485 just passed the Senate and is now waiting for the House vote!📣The Address Confidentiality Program allows survivors in Connecticut to obtain substitute addresses for use on public records, but the moment they buy a home, their name and other identifying information appear in public land records for anyone to find. That loophole puts lives at risk.

SB 485 closes that loophole and allows program participants to shield their real property records, so that owning a home doesn't undo years of carefully protected safety.

Every survivor deserves stability without fear. We urge the House to call SB 485 for vote and pass this critical legislation.
