Today, the Town of Wallkill announced that thanks to the leadership and advocacy of Senator James Skoufis and Assemblywoman Paula Kay, $4 million in State funding has been secured to help stabilize the Town and ensure continued operations.
As an Orange County Legislator representing the residents of the Town of Wallkill, I am grateful for their commitment to protecting taxpayers and stepping in to provide much-needed support.
However, this moment is also a reminder of why transparency, oversight, and access to accurate financial information are essential at every level of government. These are not just talking points — they are the foundation of responsible leadership. Residents deserve to know how their tax dollars are being managed, and elected officials must have the information necessary to make sound decisions.
We are seeing similar conversations happening at the County level as well. My colleagues and I in the Orange County Legislature identified and addressed a long-standing fiscal issue involving the overpayment of county sales tax revenue. Through collaboration, diligence, and a commitment to doing what is right, that issue has now been brought forward and awaits action on the Governor’s desk.
Whether at the Town, County, or State level, the goal should always remain the same: protecting taxpayers, ensuring accountability, and creating a stronger financial future for the communities we serve.
I want to thank Senator Skoufis, Assemblywoman Kay, Supervisor Frank DenDanto, and all those working toward solutions that move the Town of Wallkill forward.
Good government requires transparency. Our residents deserve nothing less.
