NCCJ Advancing Equality | Promoting Justice | Building Community Serving Connecticut, Massachusetts and beyond. Our DEI consulting model is adaptive and growing.

The National Conference for Community and Justice was founded in 1927 as the National Conference of Christians and Jews, in response to antisemitism. Since then, we have served as a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) anchor institute and community convener to end bigotry, address injustices and indignities in our country. NCCJ is a human relations organization that promotes inclusion and accep

tance by providing education and advocacy while building communities that are respectful and just for all. Diversity, Equity and inclusion (DEI) work is responsive to environmental considerations. To this end, NCCJ provides free education and coaching programs for adults and youth as well as fee for service consulting to businesses, organizations and schools/universities around topics including: Ability, Age, Class, Gender, Race, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation and Size. We encounter challenges, we are encouraged by the possibilities. NCCJ helps humans, human better. Some examples include our flagship youth leadership and human relations programs ANYTOWN and Bridges I and II that cater to middle and high school students. These programs equip youth with confidence, knowledge, community, and skills to create positive social change in their lives and communities.

Our Story

NCCJ was founded in 1927 as the National Conference for Christians and Jews, in response to anti-Catholic sentiment being expressed during Al Smith’s run for the Democratic nomination. Its founders included prominent social activists such as Jane Addams and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Charles Evans Hughes who dedicated the organization to bringing diverse people together to address this country’s interfaith divisions. Several years later NCCJ expanded its work to include all issues of social justice including race, class, gender equity, sexual orientation and the rights of people with different abilities. In the 1990’s, the name was changed to the National Conference for Community and Justice to better reflect the breadth and depth of its mission, the growing diversity of our country and our need to be more inclusive. Here in Connecticut/Western Massachusetts we are proud to have been the first NCCJ region established in the country. With a 90-year history, the NCCJ continues to draw upon its proud tradition of championing the cause of social justice, advancing equality, promoting justice and building inclusive communities for all.
