Juneteenth Celebration Today in Middletown

Today, Middletown comes together for a day of community, culture, music, and celebration as we commemorate Juneteenth.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to enjoy today’s parade and festivities while planning for temporary road closures and traffic delays throughout the downtown area.

🕘 9:15 AM – Secondary road closures begin
🕙 10:00 AM – Main Street closes to through traffic
🕥 10:30 AM – Parade begins on Rapallo Avenue and proceeds south on Main Street
🕛 12:00 PM – The celebration continues at Harbor Park with the Liberation Day Festival

Pedestrians traveling between downtown and Harbor Park are advised to use the pedestrian tunnel to access the festival grounds from deKoven Drive.

We look forward to a day filled with community spirit, family friendly activities, entertainment, and fellowship. Thank you for your patience as we work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.

The Middletown Police Department is proud to announce that Captain Brian Hubbs has graduated from the 298th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, joining an elite group of just 255 law enforcement officers from across the United States and around the world.

Internationally recognized for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy provides 10 weeks of advanced training in leadership, communication, and physical fitness. Attendance is by invitation only and is reserved for proven law enforcement leaders who have demonstrated exceptional professionalism and commitment to public service. Graduates often return to their agencies prepared to serve in senior executive leadership roles.

The 298th Session included law enforcement professionals from 46 states, the District of Columbia, and 29 international officers representing 26 countries, along with members of military and federal civilian organizations.

Captain Hubbs began his law enforcement career with the Plainville Police Department in 1998 before joining the Middletown Police Department in 2005. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in numerous assignments and leadership positions, culminating in his promotion to Captain in 2022. He has overseen the Patrol Division and currently commands the Professional Standards Division.

Captain Hubbs’ successful completion of the FBI National Academy reflects his dedication to professional development, leadership, and excellence in policing. We congratulate him on this outstanding achievement and look forward to the continued positive impact he will have on our department and community.

Suspect Extradited in May 19 Shooting Investigation

On June 17, 2026, detectives from the Middletown Police Department traveled to Dutchess County, New York, and successfully extradited Christopher Lane back to Connecticut in connection with an active shooting investigation stemming from an incident that occurred in Middletown on May 19, 2026.

Following his return to Connecticut, Lane was processed by the Middletown Police Department and charged with:

Attempt to Commit Assault in the First Degree
Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree
Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit
Larceny in the Fifth Degree
Breach of Peace in the Second Degree

Lane is being held on a $750,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Middlesex Superior Court on June 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

The Middletown Police Department would like to thank our law enforcement partners in New York for their assistance in facilitating Lane’s apprehension and extradition.

UPDATE: Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Crash

The Middletown Police Department continues to investigate the serious motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred in the 900 block of Washington Street (Route 66) at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Based on information developed during the ongoing investigation, it appears the 20-year-old male pedestrian was not within a designated crosswalk at the time of the collision.

As previously stated, the operator of the vehicle remained on scene and continues to be fully cooperative with investigators.

The pedestrian remains in critical condition and is receiving medical treatment at Hartford Hospital.

The investigation remains active and ongoing and is being conducted by the Middletown Police Department Traffic Unit.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information related to the crash is asked to contact Officer Eric Sanford at 860-638-4061.

Middletown Police Investigating Report of Shots Fired on Braeburn Lane

On June 15, 2026, at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers from the Middletown Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Braeburn Lane.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident and are actively canvassing the area for surveillance footage and additional evidence.

At this time, there have been no reports of injuries or property damage associated with the incident. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

The Middletown Police Department is investigating a serious motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred in the 900 block of Washington Street (Route 66) at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

The operator of the vehicle remained on scene and is fully cooperating with investigators. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the Middletown Police Department Traffic Unit.

We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Brooklyn Youth Boxing Fund for their generous donation to the Middletown PAL Boxing program. The founder, Nick Maurio, is an inspiring young man known for raising funds for inner-city boxing programs benefiting at-risk teens. Nick will attend Wesleyan University this year, and we look forward to his involvement with the PAL family.

A PAL summer bash, co-hosted by the Brooklyn Youth Boxing Fund, is set for July 18th at the PAL center. More information will be shared soon. This partnership highlights our alliance with outstanding individuals committed to fostering the success of local youth.

🚲⚠️ E-BIKE SAFETY REMINDER FROM THE MIDDLETOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT ⚠️🚲

As the school year comes to an end and more children take to the streets, sidewalks, and trails on e-bikes, we want to remind riders and parents about the importance of safe and responsible riding.

✅ Know the Law
• Not every motorized bike is legally considered an e-bike.
• Connecticut law limits e-bikes to specific speed and power classifications.
• Modified e-bikes may no longer meet the legal definition of an e-bike.

🪖 Helmets Are Required
All e-bike riders in Connecticut are required to wear a helmet, regardless of age or experience level.

🚦 Follow the Rules of the Road
• Obey all traffic signs and signals.
• Ride in the same direction as traffic.
• Use proper hand signals when turning or stopping.
• Stay alert and avoid distractions.

💡 Be Safe. Be Seen.
• Use lights and reflectors when riding in low-light conditions.
• Wear bright or reflective clothing whenever possible.
• Make sure drivers, pedestrians, and other cyclists can see you.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents:
Talk with your children about safe riding habits and ensure the e-bike they are riding meets Connecticut’s legal requirements.
