NEWS RELEASE

On 5/19/26 Christopher Lane (29 years old) was involved in a domestic violence related incident in which he discharged a firearm multiple times at an individual in the area of Westlake Drive and Forest Glen Circle. There were other vehicles and pedestrians in the area at the time. The fired rounds missed the targeted individual but caused damage to other property and residences in the area. Lane then fled on foot into the wooded area of Westlake Drive and Smith Street.

A large scale operation began utilizing numerous resources in an effort to locate Lane. Lane was not located on that evening however detectives from the Middletown Police Department continued the search over the next several days. A multijurisdictional joint investigation began and Middletown Detectives were provided information from the FBI New Haven CAST team as to Lane’s most recent location.

On Friday 5/22/26 Lane was discovered to be in Poughkeepsie, NY and was located at the Hyatt Place hotel on South Road in Poughkeepsie. An operation at that location was initiated and after several hours Lane was taken into custody at the hotel. At the time of his arrest Lane was located in possession of a handgun and live ammunition.

Lane will be extradited to CT to face charges that include Criminal Attempt to Commit Assault 1 and multiple weapons charges.

The Middletown Police Department would like to extend our sincere thanks to our partners, FBI New Haven CAST, Connecticut State Police, FBI NY Violent Crime Task Force, Town of Poughkeepsie Police

The Middletown Police Department would like to thank our law enforcement partners and the community for their assistance during last week’s active investigation involving Christopher Lane.

Lane, who was wanted in connection with the shooting incident that occurred on Westlake Drive, has been taken into custody in Poughkeepsie, New York.

This arrest was the result of extensive investigative efforts, interagency cooperation, and information developed throughout the investigation. We appreciate the public’s patience and support during the large police presence and shelter-in-place advisories that were issued as officers worked to ensure the safety of our community.

Please join the Middletown Police Department in congratulating Officer Brenden Spencer on being recognized Thursday evening at the Salute to Connecticut’s Finest as the 2026 Exchange Club Officer of the Year.

Officer Spencer began his law enforcement career in 2018 with the Hartford Police Department before joining the Middletown Police Department in 2024. Since arriving in Middletown, he has quickly made an impact through proactive policing, strong investigative work, and leadership among his peers.

His efforts have led to the arrest of violent offenders, the seizure of illegal fi****ms and narcotics, the identification of an illegal nightclub, and the arrest of a serial burglar. Officer Spencer was also previously awarded a lifesaving medal after rescuing an abandoned infant and toddler on a frigid winter night.

A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Officer Spencer served as an infantry squad leader and completed two Pacific deployments prior to entering law enforcement.

Congratulations to Officer Spencer on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for your continued service to the City of Middletown.
