✊🏽I Am Black History ✊🏽
Black History is every day! Today we highlight Lanea Collins, 2020 PLTI graduate from Middlesex County PLTI.
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.” This Maya Angelou quote is one of my favorite quotes that I live by because it reminds me not to be so hard on myself. Every day is a journey of gaining knowledge and when you know better you do better.
Lanea created The Artist Hub CT, A hub for teaching artists and aspiring teaching artists. The objective was to create a platform for teaching artists to learn, heal, grow and connect. Lanea shares more here about the project:
Why: The state of CT has a lot of great art councils and organizations for teaching artists. The problem is most teaching artists & BIPOC artists are unfamiliar with what’s happening outside of their hometowns. It was important to bridge the gap and offer professional development, mentorship and workshops to teaching artists so that we can provide access and resources to help further their careers.
Result: Teaching artists have been able to tap into more resources state wide that they were unaware of. Art councils and organizations are given a platform to present who they are and promote themselves. Collaboration, networking circles, community and K-12 teaching artists have benefited from the offerings we provide.
Partners: Connecticut Office of the Arts and Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theater partnered to form this initiative.
