988 Day is a national initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline and emphasizing the importance of mental health and su***de prevention. The theme for 988 Day 2026 is 988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough. This theme reminds us that you don’t have to be in crisis to reach out to 988. Whatever you’re facing, big or small, your reason for seeking support is reason enough.

Congratulations, Dr. Aarlan Aceto!

We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Aarlan Aceto, Program Coordinator and Professor of Ophthalmic Design & Dispensing at CT State Middlesex, as he begins his term as Board President of the United Opticians Association (UOA)!

As Aarlan Aceto begins his term as UOA Board President, he's sharing a personal message about where opticianry can go from here.

Looking at how professions like physical therapy, pharmacy, and nursing built their standing over time, he sees the same opportunity ahead for opticians, and it starts with people getting involved: joining a state association, volunteering on a committee, mentoring a student, making their voice heard.
