Love to garden? 🌱🌼 Our Good Gardens are a special part of the Norman Bird Sanctuary, and we’re looking for volunteers who enjoy getting their hands in the soil, growing vegetables and flowers, and spending time outdoors.

Whether you’re an experienced gardener or simply looking to learn, volunteering in the Good Gardens is a wonderful way to connect with nature, meet others, and help care for a space that gives back to our community. 💚

Take a break, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy all that has to offer. Our Curiosity Lab is open, the trails are in great shape, and we have a new exhibition on view in the Barn. Spend your holiday weekend with us! 💚

Serenity first found Norman Bird Sanctuary through Star Kids Scholarship Program, and over the years came as a camper and eventually became a dedicated member of our Conservation Crew. Her hard work, kindness, and love for the outdoors have left a lasting mark on our community.

This fall, she’s off to start her freshman year at Elon University, and we couldn’t be more excited for her next chapter. Congratulations, Serenity - we’ll miss you, and we know you’re going to do amazing things!

Now on view in our historic barn is Hope Deferred, a site-specific exhibition by artist Austin Eddy, presented in partnership with ART&NEWPORT.

Featuring a flock of colorful ceramic bird sculptures, the exhibition explores themes of individuality, community, and our connection to the natural world — finding a fitting home here among the landscapes and wildlife of the Sanctuary. 🌿

We’re honored to be part of this special collaboration, which was recently featured in Vogue Covers, and invite you to experience the exhibition during your next visit.
Hope Deferred is currently open for viewing daily from 9 AM–5 PM through September 13.

It’s the end of an era, and the beginning of a new adventure. 🐦

Today, we bittersweetly share the final episode of Chirps & Warbles at NBS as Jay heads off to retirement. In this last episode, Jay reflects on what he calls the golden age of birding and leaves us with a reminder to stay curious, get outside, and appreciate the birds around us.

Thank you, Jay, for inspiring so many of us to see nature through a different lens. We’ll miss you and wish you all the best in Maine! 💚

A reflection on one of the most astrologically exciting days of the year 🌠

With red lights, telescopes, and eclipse glasses on hand, campers and visitors experienced the magic of the night sky in every direction. We watched the partial eclipse through protective glasses, gathered for a sold-out Perseid meteor shower watch party, and red-light-proofed our campus for an evening of stargazing.
