Today, we remember and honor the 2,977 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001. We especially remember the 343 firefighters of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. Their bravery, dedication, and selflessness continue to inspire fellow firefighters to this day.

On-duty Local 1073 members, along with members of our Honor Guard, attended the City of Middletown 9/11 remembrance ceremony this morning, and part of the on-duty crew attended another ceremony held at South Fire District Headquarters this evening.

Twenty-five years later, we remain committed to honoring the legacy of the 343 through service, brotherhood, and a steadfast dedication to protecting our community.

We Will Never Forget.

Today, on-duty members gathered on the front apron of Headquarters to cheer on a true legend. Paul from Paulie's Push stopped by and shared a few words with Platoon 1 for the final time.

We were honored to be one of the stops along his route and to help es**rt him to the Durham town line as he continues his final journey to Ground Zero in New York.

Paulie’s dedication, perseverance, and commitment to honoring those lost on September 11th have inspired countless people over the years. Thank you, Paulie, for being an inspiration to Local 1073, the Middletown Fire Department, and the community we proudly serve. We wish you safe travels on the remainder of your journey!

Please join us in welcoming the newest members of the Middletown Fire Department!

Recruit Firefighters:
Joseph Darley
Zachary Bates
Daniel Soto
Garrett Kronenberger

Over the past two weeks, these recruits have been learning the basics of firefighting and department operations here in Middletown. Starting Monday, they will now spend the next 15 weeks training at the Connecticut Fire Academy before returning to begin their careers serving our community.

These four positions were made possible through funding from a SAFER Grant and will help increase staffing to 16 members per shift. Most importantly, they will help maintain a minimum staffing level of 3 firefighters on Truck 1, improving the safety and effectiveness of our fire response capabilities.

Good luck, recruits—we look forward to having you back on shift soon!
