Congratulations Chief Coco!!!

Please join the CFDIA Executive Board in welcoming Chief Phillip Coco of the Westfield Fire Department as our newly appointed Treasurer.

Chief Coco is a dedicated fire service professional with decades of experience in emergency services, fire prevention, training, and leadership.

Having served the Westfield Fire Department in numerous capacities (including Lieutenant, Deputy Fire Marshal, Assistant Chief, and now Fire Chief), he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to firefighter safety, operational excellence, and community service.

In addition to his leadership within the department, Chief Coco is a paramedic, instructor, and public safety professional who is highly respected throughout Connecticut’s fire service community.

We are honored to have Chief Coco share his knowledge, experience, and passion for the fire service with us.

Tonight members worked with a physical therapist/certified strength and conditioning coach to improve their physical fitness/readiness so that they can perform when the harshest conditions are present. Being physically fit allows us to perform our job at high levels when chaos is all around.

Tuesday night for drill, members had the opportunity to train on some vacant apartments in our district. Members practiced different techniques for victim rescue, vertical ventilation, and horizontal ventilation all using ground ladders, and our aerial ladder.

Before we began drill, we celebrated FF Jim Whites 100th birthday. FF White joined the department in 1952 making him a member for 74 years. He was given a citation for his years of hard work and dedication to the Westfield Fire District. Congratulations and we wish you a very happy birthday!

Yesterday evening the MCFS graduation for the Fire 1&2 combination course was held at our station. All of these students worked really hard over the past 6 months to meet the standards of a firefighter in their communities. Congratulations to all!

A special congratulations to our members, Geno Pasquale, Garrett Kronenberger, Harrison Chan, and Katlyn Payne.

Last evening our two newest career firefighters Joe Fortuna and Sean Brown were officially sworn into the Westfield Fire Department. These two gentlemen have been a great addition to our department so far. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

19 Westfield Fire Department members spent this Sunday doing live fire training evolutions at the Chief James H Trommer Fire Training Facility at Newington Fire Department. Crews practiced forcible entry, fire attack, search, victim removal, ventilation and ladder placement under live fire conditions. Thanks to the Newington Fire Department Training Division for their generosity and help and to all the Westfield members who gave up a nice Sunday morning to get better at what they do. We also want to thank the East Berlin Fire Department for providing coverage for our district while our members trained.

This morning the Westfield Fire Department responded to assist Middlefield Fire Company with the tri-town hazmat trailer to a motor vehicle collision involving a large diesel spill. This asset is shared between Westfield, Middlefield and Durham. It was placed in service earlier this year, and this was its first response bringing necessary equipment to contain the diesel spill.

Westfield Fire would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Boston Fire Department and the friends and family of Firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr. Firefighter Kilduff Jr tragically gave his life in the line of duty last night while battling a 3 alarm fire in Dorchester.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
