Today, May 15, 2026, we pause to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Peace Officers Memorial Day is an observance dedicated to honoring those who have died or
been disabled in the line of duty. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the courage, dedication, and selfless sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and partners across our great nation.

This year’s observance is especially difficult as we honor and remember Trooper Kevin Trainor, who was laid to rest this week. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and colleagues during this heartbreaking time.

We also take this opportunity to honor and remember one of our own, Sgt. Edward Couture, who lost his life in the line of duty in July 1997.

Additionally, we honor and remember Trooper Vincent Cila, who lost his life in the line of duty in 2005. One of our own officers, Officer Sam Cila, is the proud daughter of Trooper Cila.

Police week serves as an important reminder of the sacrifices made not only by officers, but also by the families who stand beside them every day. We ask our community to join us in honoring the fallen and keeping their families, colleagues, and loved ones in your thoughts today.

COMMUNITY ALERT: Vehicle Break-In Prevention

Middleton and our surrounding communities have experienced a series of overnight vehicle break-ins, and we are urging residents to lock their vehicles and check their homes’ security footage.

Your Middleton Police Department wants to help keep your vehicle and your valuables safe. Nearly every incident involved an unlocked vehicle.

Vehicle break-ins are one of the most common and most preventable crimes in our community. In most cases, thieves are looking for easy targets. Don't be one.

Here are (4) simple steps every resident can take:

1. Leave nothing visible – bags, chargers, change, even a jacket can attract a thief. Clear your car every time.
2. Lock your vehicle every time – even in your driveway. Over 30% of break-ins happen through unlocked doors.
3. Park smart – Choose well-lit, busy areas. Avoid dark, isolated spots whenever possible.
4. Know your neighborhood, if you see something, say something.

A few seconds of awareness can save you hours of frustration and hundreds of dollars in repairs. Share this post to help spread the word and keep our community safe.
