Our most popular activity from last summer is back! Rock painting returns to the Farmers Market today. Stop by and paint a rock to add to our community rock snake outside the library.

The Farmers Market runs from 2:30–6:30 PM, with rock painting available until 6 PM. Since the market has moved indoors, you’ll find us set up in front of the Children’s Department.

Ever wonder who invented the Band-Aid®? Children’s author Barry Wittenstein can tell you all you need to know about how the adhesive bandage came to rescue a world of cuts and bruises when the New Jersey Center for the Book hosts the writer to discuss his children’s picture book, The Boo Boos That Changed the World: A True Story About an Accidental Invention (Really!). The virtual event will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m.
For America’s 250th birthday, the NJ Center for the Book is celebrating books about enterprising and innovative Americans who made a difference, such as New Brunswick’s Earle Dickson, inventor of the Band-Aid®, and the subject of Wittenstein’s book.
During the live event, Mr. Wittenstein will read The Boo-Boos book and share insights about his writing process. He will be joined by Karen Stuppi, children’s librarian at the New Brunswick Public Library, who will share how she used this book in programming at her library and the reaction of the kids when they learned that this invention occurred in their town.
During the moderated Q&A session, attendees will have the opportunity to ask Wittenstein questions. The event will be recorded if you cannot attend it live.
Wittenstein is the NJ Center for the Book’s Great Reads from Great Places featured children’s author for this book at the 2026 National Book Festival in Washington D.C.
This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
