Monroe Township EMS

Monroe Township EMS Welcome to the official page of Monroe Township Municipal Ambulance Service (EMS). This page is not monitored 24 hours a day.

Please dial 911 to request an ambulance or report an emergency. The Monroe Township Municipal Ambulance Service (Monroe Township EMS) was established on February 11, 1991, to ensure the residents of Monroe Township receive the highest quality care possible. Our department is made up of over 30 Fulltime and 50 per diem staff who work together to ensure emergency services are available 24 hours a da

y. We work alongside the Monroe Township First Aid Squad, which has been serving since August 1, 1970 to answer over 11,000 calls for assistance per year (about 30 per day). Monroe Township EMS operates out of five strategically placed stations throughout the township. From these stations, we respond a fleet of 14 Ambulances, which are designed and built with the most state of the art safety and comfort features available. Our ambulances are also equipped with the highest quality medical equipment such as Motorized Stretchers, High Efficiency HVAC, Automated Mechanical CPR Devices, Automated External Defibrillators and Ruggedized Laptop Computers. In addition to our ambulances, we maintain a fleet of 5 first responder vehicles, utilized by Supervisors and EMTs for First Response and administrative duties. These vehicles are just as equipped as the ambulances, minus the ability to transport patients to the hospital. We also have a John Deer Gator for off road use, a Rehab/MCI Truck and Staging/Command Trailer for large events/incidents such as Fires, Concerts and Fireworks. Every ambulance is staffed with two New Jersey Certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) who are all trained to thoroughly assess for illness and injury, administer advanced first aid and bleeding control, CPR, oxygen therapy including CPAP and Rescue Breathing and well as compassionate and supporting care. Our EMTs are also trained to administer emergency medications such as Epinephrine, Naloxone, Aspirin and Glucose should you require immediate intervention. Each shift is overseen by an on-duty supervisor who is available to respond with an ambulance or independently to establish prompt on scene care until one arrives. Our supervisors are trained in Mass Casualty Management and Incident Command as well as the same medical skills as our EMT staff. Our supervisors report to the Deputy Director who reports to the Director of Ambulance Services, who are ultimately responsible for the administration and operation of our department. If you are interested in learning more about our department, please visit our website. Information on open positions and volunteer opportunities are also available as well as way you can prepare yourself for an emergency. Next time you need help, you can count on the Monroe Township EMS to be there.

As we close out EMS Week 2026, we would like to share something special with you. This year we are celebrating our 35th anniversary. That’s right, we have been serving the community for 35 years.

Monroe Township Municipal Ambulance Service was established February 11, 1991. We proudly started our journey with 1 station and 5 employees. Our initial team consisted of Janet Pullen, Judy Olbrys, Robert Drako, Dan Hogan and Anthony Malanga. As the township grew, we expanded alongside with it.

Today we are a fully paid EMS division. Our team is composed of: 1 Director of EMS, 1 Deputy Director of EMS, 4 Supervisors, 1 Office Personnel, 28 Full-time EMS Professionals and 42 Per-diem Employees. We operate out of 5 stations with a fleet of 12 ambulances, 4 command vehicles, 5 special operations units, 1 NJEMS Task Force staging area trailer, and 1 general purpose trailer. Our average response time (including non-emergency responses) is 5mins 3 secs. Our average response time for cardiac arrest is 3mins 56secs. The national average for the aforementioned is 10 mins and 9mins 10secs respectively. Since 1991 we have answered approximately 200000 plus (and counting) calls for service.

All the statistics we mentioned above are amazing. However, it’s the people that make up Monroe Township EMS that separates us from everyone else. From those original team members who built the foundation of our organization from the ground up. To those who are the current thought leaders and pacesetters driving us into the future. To those who bravely don the uniform everyday. You all made this organization one of , if not, the best municipal EMS services in the state. Thank you and Happy EMS Week 2026 πŸš‘.

We saved the best for last. EMS Sta. 2 / EMS Headquarters. This building originally saw service as the Township DPW. As our community grew, both services needed a new facility. In approximately 1993, the building was converted to an EMS station and designated EMS HQ. Sta. 2 ran 2 paid ambulances for most of years that it has been open. With the addition of Sta. 5 in 2021, the staffing at Sta 2 was decreased to 1 paid ambulance. This station is home to our command staff (Director, Deputy Director, and EMS Supervisors), the Special Operations Division and our office personnel. Sta. 2 runs a duty ambulance from 7a-11p 7 days a week, but is staffed 24/7 by the EMS Supervisor and RWJUH Paramedic Unit 1A3. This station covers the central area of town.

As EMS Week 2026 continues on, we would like to present EMS Sta. 4. As EMS call volume continued to increase during the 2000’s, it was clear another EMS station was needed to better serve the citizens of Monroe Township. In conjunction with Monroe Township Fire District 2 a new EMS / Fire Station was built in 2010: EMS Sta. 4 / Fire Station 57. EMS Sta. 4 is combination career EMS / Fire Station.
