Free car seat or booster, infant to 8 years of age to those that are eligible:
Gallia Meigs Community Action Agency ‘s Help Me Grow administers The Ohio Department of Health's child passenger safety (CPS) program, Ohio Buckles Buckeyes (OBB). GMCAA Help Me Grow Certified Safety Seat Technicians can provide free child safety seats and booster seats to eligible low income families in all Ohio counties.
In order to receive an OBB seat, families who are income-eligible* must attend an educational class provided by trained local CPS staff. In this session, the parent /caregiver(s) receives important education on how to properly use the car seat for their child, and are shown how to correctly install the car seat in their vehicle.
*Income must be within WIC guidelines although recipient does not need to be enrolled in WIC . Check your eligibility: https://www.benefits.gov/benefit/2068
To obtain a free car seat call 740-578-9877 or 740-578-9779 for arrangements to meet with a Certified Car Seat Safety Technician.
Ohio’s child passenger safety law requires the following:
Children less than 4 years old or 40 pounds must use a child safety seat meeting federal motor vehicle safety standards.
Children less than 8 years old, unless they are at least 4 feet, 9 inches tall must use a booster seat.
Children ages 8-15 must use a child safety seat or safety belt.
