Having a ladder truck is something pretty unique, and with it comes opportunities to serve our community in ways that go beyond responding to emergencies. One of those opportunities is being able to proudly display the American flag on a scale like this.
Flying the flag between two ladder trucks has become a meaningful tradition within the fire service. It can be used to honor our country, recognize our veterans and first responders, pay tribute to those we have lost, and stand as a symbol of respect and unity during community events and special occasions. It’s a simple but powerful way for us to use the equipment we have to bring people together.
We are incredibly thankful to the Middlefield VFW Post 9678 for purchasing this beautiful new flag for our Department. Their generosity gives us the opportunity to use it for many different events and occasions throughout our community for years to come. We are honored to have it and look forward to displaying it proudly.
A huge thank you also goes to Orwell Fire Department for bringing their ladder truck over this afternoon and working with us as we figured out the setup and logistics for our new flag. Partnerships between neighboring departments are an important part of the fire service, and we’re grateful for their time, equipment, and willingness to help us.
Today was about getting everything set up and learning what works, seeing that flag hanging between the two trucks is a always an incredible site.
