Many of you may have watched Pam’s Facebook Live yesterday here on the Middlebury Food Pantry page regarding one of our volunteers who lost her home in a devastating fire earlier this week.
We wanted to share a little more information, as there is still an urgent need to help this local family.
Our volunteer has lived in Middlebury for the past eight years and her son attends Middlebury Schools, preparing to enter Heritage Intermediate School this fall. Early Tuesday morning, they woke up to find their duplex engulfed in flames. Thankfully, they escaped safely and were able to save their clothing, but much of their home was destroyed and the remainder suffered significant smoke damage.
Right now, the greatest need is stable housing.
We are working to help place the family in an extended-stay hotel with a kitchen so they can have a safe and stable place to stay while longer-term housing is arranged. The family hopes to remain in the Middlebury area so her son can continue attending school locally.
To make this even more difficult, she is currently five months pregnant, and the stress and uncertainty have been overwhelming.
This is one of our own. A volunteer. A friend. A member of our community who has spent time helping others, and now needs our help.
At this time, clothing is not a major need. Financial donations toward temporary housing and immediate living expenses would make the biggest impact right now.
If you would like to help, please message the Middlebury Food Pantry directly or contact us for donation information.
Thank you for supporting this family during such a heartbreaking time.
