🫀 The Most Important Care Happens Before We Arrive

A recent cardiac arrest in our community highlighted the critical role that bystanders play before EMS arrives. Quick recognition of an emergency, an immediate 911 call, and early CPR can make all the difference.

Stories like this are why MREMS continues to offer CPR, First Aid, bleeding control, and stroke recognition training throughout Addison County. Every person who learns these skills strengthens our community's Chain of Survival and helps ensure that someone is ready to act when seconds matter most.

As MREMS Executive Director Kate Rothwell noted, “These are the skills that become another link in the chain of survival where seconds matter most.”

A few weeks ago, Middlebury Regional EMS welcomed members of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’ staff for a tour of our headquarters and a conversation about the opportunities and challenges facing EMS in Vermont.

We discussed the vital role EMS plays in our communities, as well as the workforce, funding, and operational challenges facing emergency medical services across the state.

We appreciate the opportunity to share our perspective and thank the senator’s office for its continued engagement with EMS providers and rural healthcare issues.

🎓 Congratulations to MREMS member Jasper Pearcy-Kahn on graduating from Middlebury College!

This past Sunday, we celebrated the graduation of one of our outstanding student members, Jasper Pearcy-Kahn, Middlebury College Class of 2026.

Jasper joined Middlebury Regional EMS in November 2023 after earning his EMT certification the summer following his freshman year. Since then, he has responded to 371 calls as an EMT and newly completed AEMT, serving both the College and wider Middlebury community.

A Chemistry major from Denver, Colorado, Jasper was inspired to pursue healthcare after witnessing a medical emergency in high school. During his time with MREMS, he became known for his dedication, professionalism, and positive attitude.

When asked about his favorite part of MREMS, Jasper shared:
“MREMS allows us to be really involved in the wider community both through going on calls, but also the relationships with coworkers have been awesome.”

After graduation, Jasper plans to take some time off before eventually pursuing medical school.

Thank you, Jasper, for your service to our patients, our team, and our community. Congratulations on your graduation and completing your AEMT certification — we can’t wait to see what comes next!

We’re proud to announce that both of today’s “Learn to Save a Life” classes — the 10:00 AM session and the 2:00 PM session — are officially FULL.
