🔮Chapter 11🔮

"Is something wrong, boss," Gary asked when he noticed Gabriel getting agitated as he kept dailing some numbers on his phone.

"Paige is not answering her phone and neither is Todd. She always answers me right away or call back, something is wrong. Step on it," he ordered.

He sat there with his phone in his hand, watching the road ahead of him. He could feel his heart beating rapidly inside his chest. He couldn't help but wonder if the old woman did have some kind of special powers.

What if Paige was in trouble right now and he wasn't there to protect her. He would never forgive himself if anything happened to her.

Picking up his phone he tried calling her again, it went to voicemail so he tried calling Todd again and finally got an answer.

Gary tightened his grip on the steering wheel when he heard how angry Gabriel was.

"Todd, I've been trying to get in touch with you and my wife. What the f**k is going on and where is she?" he asked and listened to what was being said.

He could feel the blood boiling in his veins. "I'll be there soon and she better be alright," he snapped and hung up.

"Everything all right boss?"

"No everything is not alright, now step on it."

Gary clammed up. Since Gabriel wasn't telling him he kept quiet, not wanting to make him angrier than he already was.

When they finally pulled up to the hotel he jumped out, not bothering to shut the door and stormed inside. He was approached by the manager who raced over to him when he stepped into the elevator.

"Mr. Maestri, I'm so sorry about what happened to your wife. Nothing like this has ever happened before." He had heard of the boss's temper and what he was capable of doing to those who crossed him.

Gabriel held the door open, staring angrily at him.

"I'll be talking to you later and you better hope my wife is OK," he said, letting the door close in his face.

As soon as the elevator stopped and the door opened he took long strides towards his suite. Going inside he was greeted by Todd who found himself pinned up against the wall with a pair of hands around his throat.

"You son of a bitch, you were supposed to protect her."

"Mr. Maestri, please," Todd cried out, feeling the breath being drained from his body. "It was an accident, no one's fault."

Gabriel released him and stepped back.

"Tell me exactly what happened," he said and looked around the room for her. "Where's my wife?"

"She's resting in the bedroom," he answered, rubbing his throat. His boss had a strong grip and he had no doubt that Gabriel could kill him in an instant.

"Get talking, I'm listening."

"I drove Mrs. Maestri to the mall, she wanted to go shopping. We came back here and she went to have a massage then later decided to go into the sauna."

He swallowed the lump in his throat, finding Gabriel to be a very intimidating man who frightened him.

"Then what?" Grabiel shouted when Todd hesitated.

"She was in there a long time and the place was getting ready to close up for the night. When she didn't come out I went in looking for her, along with one of the workers. We found her locked in the sauna and it was cranked up high. I broke down the door and got her out of there. I brought her up here and had the hotel's doctor come to check her out."

"Is she OK?"

"Yes, a little dehydrated but mostly scared."

"How was it that the sauna's door was locked?"

"Sir, I don't know, but it was locked from the outside. Someone had to have locked it and turned up the heat. The hotel is investigating it and all the employees who were working at the time."

Gabriel nodded his head. "You can go now."

Todd walked out, though the man had almost strangled him to death he still admired how much he loved his wife and how worried he was about her.

Walking into the bedroom he felt like crying when he saw her asleep, thinking of how he could have lost her.

The old woman was right, he had to get her out of New York and back home. He also knew that if he told her about her grandmother she would refuse to leave, wanting to go see her. He made the decision not to tell her, it was for her safety.

Even the old woman told him to take her back to Italy, that she was in danger. He went and sat on the bed, reaching over gently he stroked her cheek.

Paige felt something touching her face.

When she opened her eyes and saw him she sat up and threw her arms around his neck, resting her head on his shoulder.

"I'm so glad you're home."

He felt her body trembling so he tightened his arms around her.

"I heard about what happened and I'm so sorry I wasn't here for you."

Letting go he lifted her chin up so he could look at her.
"I would die if anything happened to you." He leaned down and kissed her, all of his love for her was poured into that one kiss.

When the kiss ended she looked at him, there were tears in her eyes.

"I was so scared. I tried to open the door but couldn't. I started screaming, banging on the door but no one came. I must have passed out because the next thing I knew I was here, in bed."

"How are you feeling now?"

"Much better now that you're here and I'm hungry."

He moved her hair over to the side and smiled. "I'll order room service, what would you like?"

"Anything."

Giving her another kiss he went and ordered the steak and salad platter while she took a shower. A smile crossed his face when he saw she was wearing the nightgown he had bought her when they first arrived here.

"Seeing you in that I might not be able to finish eating. I just might have to eat you instead," he said, pulling her into his arms.

He let out a growl when the doorbell rang, knowing it was the food being delivered.

She let out a giggle.
"You better get that."

Letting the server in with the trolley carrying the food he opened up his wallet and gave him a tip. They sat down to eat after he opened a bottle of wine and poured them each a glass. He was glad to see her eating, some colour had come back into her cheeks.

"So how did your business go, today?" she asked, taking a bite of her steak.

"It went well, found out what I needed to find out. I'm sorry it took me so long. When you went into the sauna was there anyone else around?"

"No, I was the only one in the sauna room and I didn't see anyone, why do you ask?"

"The door to the sauna was locked from the outside and the temperature was turned up high. Are you sure you didn't hear or see anything out of the ordinary?"

"No, nothing. Do you think someone deliberately locked me in there and why would they do that?"

"I'm not sure but I'm going to make sure that it never happens to anyone else again. After we eat I'm going to go downstairs and have a word with the manager. I'll have Todd stand outside until I get back."

"But you just got back and you're leaving already?"

"Angel, I will only be gone ten minutes, twenty tops. I want to make sure that all locks are removed from those doors, inside and out. I also want to find out who was working around that time so that I can have a word with them. Whoever locked you in there is going to pay dearly."

"Perhaps it was an accident," she said, worried about what he was going to do.

"Perhaps," he said, but he highly doubted that it was an accident.

After eating he gave her a kiss and promised he wouldn't be gone long. He called Todd and told him to come to his suite and to stand outside the door and keep watch.

Downstairs he gathered the manager and a few of the other employees together.

"I want the locks on every sauna removed immediately. I'm going to have the police talk to every employee that was working at the time of my wife's incident. Whoever did this will be punished."

"Do you not wish to talk to the employees yourself?" the manager asked him.

"My wife and I are leaving tomorrow for Italy. But I do want to be informed of the outcome and I expect you to call me as soon as you know anything," he said, looking back at his hotel manager.

After giving some more orders he went back up to his suite, telling Todd he could leave. He entered the hotel suite and called out her name.

"I'm in here" she shouted out.

Walking into the bedroom he started removing his clothes. Getting into bed he took the book she was reading from her hands and threw it on the floor, climbing on top of her.

"Do you have any idea what I'm about to do to you?" he asked, his mouth going to her neck he starts kissing it.

She could feel his hardness pressing into her.

"I'm pretty sure I know what you're going to do," she said, panting when his hand slid up her leg.

She opened her legs for him, letting him pleasure her, bringing her to an or**sm with just a touch of his fingers. She barely had time to recover from the or**sm when he entered her and began thrusting deep inside her.

Later they fell asleep in each other's arms, the sheets were a tangled mess but they didn't care.

In the morning when they woke up she snuggled up to him.
"So what should we do today?"

"I was thinking we should go home."

She raised herself up to look at him.

"But why? We've only been here for three days and I thought we were going to spend two weeks here."

He didn't have the heart to tell her about what her grandmother said about them being in danger and that they should leave New York so he made up something else, which was partly true.

"I'm missing the kids, aren't you?"

"Yes I miss them, but we talk to them every day on the phone. Can't we stay just a little bit longer?"

He put his arms around her, kissing the top of her forehead.

"I promise we'll come back again another time and we will stay longer but right now I really want to go home."

She let out a sigh, feeling a little disappointed.

"Okay, if you really want to go home so badly then we will go."

"Thanks for understanding."

They got up and took a shower and had some breakfast. Their flight wasn't due to leave until that afternoon. Seeing his jacket laying over the arm of the chair she went and picked it up.

"Gabriel, you really should hang this up instead of throwing it over a chair."

"I forgot," he replied.

Then his mouth dropped open in shock when the picture of her mother fell out on his jacket.

She bent down and picked up the photo and looked at it, then she turned to look at him.

"Who is this? She looks just like me."

He was at a loss for words, all he could do was stare at her with his mouth open.

"Gabriel, who is this woman? Does she have anything to do with you having to go away yesterday and why does she look like me?"

"Angel, can we talk about this when we get home?"

He knew that she was not going to drop it. If only he had remembered to hide that damn picture they wouldn't be standing here right now and he would not have to explain how he found her grandmother.

She looked at the picture again, her eyes glistened, she was close to tears. There was no doubt in her mind that this picture had something to do with her. She walked over to him still holding the picture.

"Gabriel, please tell me the truth, tell me what you are hiding from me. Is the woman in this picture my sister, my mother? Tell me, tell me the truth."

He placed the palms of his hands on either side of her face. Seeing the pain in her eyes there was no way he could not tell her the truth.

♦️T. B. C♦️

So the Paige's grandmother was right there was some danger.

Should Gabriel tell her the truth?😕🤔

And what will happen if he does tell her the truth, will they still go back to Italy or 🤔🤔

🔮Chapter 10🔮

As soon as they stepped into the woods the wind picked up, it was a cold wind that went straight through to their bones. The further into the woods they got the darker it became.

An eerie silence surrounded them as they made their way down the path. The only sound came from branches crunching beneath their feet.

"Why the hell is it getting so dark?" Gary asked, turning on his flashlight.

"I don't know, just keep moving."

"Shouldn't we be hearing sounds, like animals or birds? It's way to quiet," Gary said as they continued walking.

"God, I wish you would stop talking so much," Gabriel said, rolling his eyes.

It wasn't long when they saw lights up ahead and could see what looked like an old run-down shack.

Gabriel looked over at the other man. "Well, I guess this is it."

Before they reached the steps a big black cat jumped up onto the post near them and started hissing, staring at them.

Gary jumped back, dropping his flashlight, swearing.

"Fu***ng s**t, I almost pi**ed in my pants. Will you look at the size of that cat. I have never seen one that big before."

He picked up the flashlight he dropped just as the front door to the cabin opened. They both could hear the sound of a rifle cocking and Gary pulled out his gun, but Gabriel motioned for him to put it away.

"Who's out there? Speak now or I'll blow your f**king head off."

Gabriel held up his hands, moving closer so that he could be seen.

"Mrs. Bell, my name is Gabriel Maestri. I've come here to talk to you about your granddaughter."

"Now I know you're lying, I don't have a granddaughter. Get off my property before I shoot you and the other one," she said, still pointing the rifle at him.

"I've been searching for years to find someone related to my wife and you resemble her. I've come all the way from Italy to speak to you. Will you allow us to come inside and talk to you? We won't take up much of your time."

She lowered her gun just a little but still kept it pointed at them.

"We've never met before so how could you know we look alike?"

"Let me come in and I'll tell you everything."

She lowered the rifle, staring at Gabriel.

"You are wasting your time but I will give you ten minutes then you must leave." She turned and walked inside, the two men followed.

Neither man could tell what the old woman looked like as she wore a long black coat with a hood that covered most of her face. They looked around the room, it consisted of a table, several old chairs and an old sofa that had seen better days. The cabin was very old, there were oil lanterns lighting up the place.

There was a fireplace with a big old black pot hanging over it from a hook. The place did look spooky, even to Gabriel. There were several small bottles sitting on the counter with some weird looking liquid inside, he didn't even want to guess what it was.

"Sit," the old woman instructed.

As soon as they were seated the black cat came in from outside, jumping up on the sofa closest to Gary and started hissing at him.

"Cyrus, stop," she said as she removed her coat.

Gabriel's eyes widened when he saw her, she really did resemble Paige. But she didn't look to be in her eighties.

When Margaret saw him staring at her she snapped at him.

"Boy, what are you looking at? Have you never seen an old woman before?" she asked as she sat down.

"I'm sorry for staring but you do strike a remarkable resemblance to my wife, your granddaughter."

"I told you I don't have a granddaughter. I had a daughter once, but she died many years ago. Your time is running out, get talking."

"May I show you a picture of my wife?"

"Go ahead," she said, watching him take something out of his pocket.
"What you got there?" she asked, wondering what the black thing was.

"This is a phone, a cell phone, it has pictures on it." He clicked on the photos and brought up one of Paige and handed her the phone. When she was hesitant he realized that she had never seen one before and wouldn't know what it was.

"It's OK, it won't hurt you, here, take a look at the picture."

She took the phone and looked at it, her hand began to shake, tears filled her eyes.

"Oh my good God, she looks just like my daughter, Clare." She placed her finger on the screen and when she went to trace over the face it disappeared and another picture popped up. Dropping the phone on the sofa she pointed her bony finger at Gabriel.

"What kind of witchery is this?"

Gabriel shook his head and tried to calm her down.

"It's not, it's just a phone that takes pictures and stores them so we can look at them whenever we want. Please, you said she looks just like your daughter. My wife must be your granddaughter."

He picked up the phone and going over sat beside her, flipping through the photos. He came to the one with Lorenzo and Anna-Lisa and held it up so she could see them. "These are our children, your great-grandchildren."

She stared at the picture, a tear trickled down her face. "I didn't even know my daughter had a child."

"How could you not know?" Gabriel asked, flipping through the photos so that she could see more pictures.

"I'll make us some tea," she said, getting up went over to the kitchen counter.

Gary leaned over to whisper in Gabriel's ear.

"I wonder what she's cooking in that pot, it smells God awful. I bet there are bat wings and other weird things in it."

Gabriel gave him a stern look.

"Be quiet or you can wait outside."

He clammed right up, not wanting to be outside alone, it was almost as creepy out there as it was inside. He jumped when the cat hissed at him, it was as if it knew he was talking about his owner in a negative way.

She handed them their tea and sat down across from them.

"There's also toad's feet and lizard guts in it. It makes a nice stew, would you like some?" she asked, staring at Gary.
"I may be an old woman young man but I'm not deaf. I don't like you."

Gabriel snickered.
"No one does," he said, smiling.
"Now about your daughter, you were going to tell me about her."

"Clare ran away from home when she was sixteen, I never heard from her again. It was years later when a police officer came and told me she was killed in a car accident. There was no mention of her having a baby. Tell me, did my granddaughter grow up in a good family?"

Gabriel shook his head.
"No. She was moved from one foster home to another and always felt as though she had family somewhere. It will give her great pleasure to meet you. Come back to the hotel with me."

"You will never get me in one of those weird vehicles."

"Perhaps you could fly there on your broom," Gary said without thinking, earning a poke in the ribs from Gabriel.

She looked at him, staring into his eyes.
"I gather you've heard I'm a witch, maybe I am." She smiled at him wickedly. "Drink your tea."

Gary looked down at the cup in his hands, his eyes going wide. He felt the sweat forming across his forehead and placed the cup on the table. There was no way he was going to drink it, he was afraid there was some weird potion in it.

Gabriel shook his head at Gary, giving him a dirty look before looking back at Margaret.

" I apologize for my friend's rude behaviour. May I ask why your daughter ran away?"

"Look around, would you want to live here? She hated living here. The kids from town were cruel to her, making fun of her for having a mother who was a witch. Teased her, saying she was also a witch. Clare was ashamed of me so one day she ran off and never returned." She looked right into Gabriel's eyes. "Do you think I'm a witch?"

"I don't believe in witches. Do you think you're a witch?"

She sat back in her chair, patting Cyrus and started talking to him.

"You hear that? He doesn't believe in witches." The cat started meowing loudly, it was like it was answering her and laughing when she did. She never did answer his question.

"I haven't told my wife I found you, I wanted to surprise her. It would mean the world to her if she could meet you."

"You really love her, don't you?"

"With all of my heart."

She leaned forward, staring into his eyes.

"You have suffered great pain, your father was a cruel man who tortured you and others. You were never shown love, didn't know how to love but she saved you. You were the devil and she was your angel."

Gabriel was shocked when she said this, how could she possibly have known about his life growing up. He swallowed hard, wanting to steer the conversation away from him.

"I'm not here to talk about me, I'm here about my wife. Growing up she had always felt alone, wondering if she had a family. It would mean a great deal to her to know she has a grandmother. I will hate having to tell her that her mother is deceased."

"I would love to meet her, but you will have to bring her here. Will you do that or are you afraid that she will be disgusted with me and where I live?"

"My wife is a sweet and loving person, she has never been one to judge anybody. I will bring her here to meet you."

Margaret stood up and went over to a small desk, opening the drawer she took out a picture and handed it to Gabriel.

"Give her this, it is a picture of her mother when she was sixteen."

He looked at it, amazed how much they looked alike.
"Thank you, I know she will appreciate having it. May I ask you another question?"

"You may, whether I answer it or not is another question."

"How is it that you are in your eighties? You look at least twenty years younger than that."

The older woman laughed a little. "Witches age slower than the average person. But of course, you don't believe in witches."

All he could do was smile back at her. "Thank you for talking to me, I'll bring her back here in a couple of days."

"She doesn't know you have come to see me does she?"

"No. I wanted to make sure you were who I thought you were before I told her. I didn't want to get her hopes up."

"Do you have something of hers on you, something personal?"

He thought this was a weird question but he reached his hand into one of his pockets and pulled out a necklace. It was one she was wearing but had taken off and asked him to hold it for her. He had forgotten it was in there until now, he handed it to her.

"This is the only thing I have on me."

Margaret took it in her hands and closed her eyes. The two men looked at each other when she kept them closed for several minutes.

Opening her eyes she looked at Gabriel. "Go to her, she is in danger here, take her back to Italy."

"What do you mean she's in danger?"

"I don't know exactly, all I know is that there is someone out there who wants to harm her and you too."

He wasn't sure who or what this woman was, but just hearing that his wife was in danger was enough to make him want to get back to her in a hurry. Cyrus jumped in front of Gary, making him jump out of the way and had to walk around him to get out.

As they made their way through the woods Gary looked at Gabriel.

"You have to admit that the place and Mrs. Bell are really creepy. I actually believe she's a witch. Do you want to know what's even scarier?"

"What?" Gabriel asked.

All he could think about was how the old woman knew about his past and what she said about Paige being in danger.

Maybe she was just guessing and when she saw his reaction knew she was close. It's what trained psychics do, they start with something and if your expression tells them they're close it gives them encouragement to go on. He was more open to her being a psychic than a witch.

"What's scarier is that I just saw a big bat fly by," Gary said, pulling out his weapon and looking around.

When they got near the road it was light out once again, much to Gary's relief.

Going into the forest he heard nothing, but coming out he could hear all kinds of noises, the spookiest sound was that of a cat. He was sure it was Mrs. Bell's cat, following them.

Getting in the car Gabriel tried phoning Paige, but when it kept going to voicemail he tried calling Todd. Not getting an answer from either one of them he ordered Gary to step on it. Something was wrong, he felt it in his bones.

🔮Chapter 9🔮

"Hum, about today. I'm afraid I will be busy this afternoon. There's something I have to do but I promise that after today I'm all yours and we'll spend every day together."

Her lips pressed together in anger and she jumped off of his lap.

"I don't believe this. Why did you bring me if we weren't going to be together? We should have brought the children, then I wouldn't have to be alone."

"Angel, it's only one day, please don't be mad."

"This better not have anything to do with that woman from last night."

He ran his hand over his face and let out a sigh.

"I swear on my life it has nothing to do with her." He got up and went over to her, putting his hands on each one of her cheeks.
"You know you can trust me. I'm going to see someone and I'll be taking Gary with me."

"Gary?" she asked.

"He's one of the guards I hired to go with me."

"One of the guards, there's more?"

"Yes, one more and his name is Todd. I asked him to stay here to keep an eye on you while I'm away."

"What's going on that you need guards? You haven't had any for a few years now except for Mitch. Are we in some kind of danger? If so I have a right to know."

He still had his hands on her face.

"No sweetheart, it's nothing like that, it's just some business I have to take care of. I will just feel better knowing there's someone watching over you since we're in New York." He leaned down and kissed her.
"I don't have to leave for a couple of hours, let's go for a swim before I leave. You can wear that red bikini I bought you."

"Alright, but that woman better not be there or I'll have to drown her."

He chuckled.

"Still so jealous I see. Go on, slip into your suit," he said, giving her ass a slap when she walked away.

After enjoying a couple of hours in the pool they had lunch before he got ready to leave.

"Do you know when you'll be back?" she asked, her arms going around his neck.

"I really don't know, but I will be back as soon as I can. Why don't you do some shopping, buy whatever you want."

"I guess I could and maybe I'll get a massage from one of the young, hunky guys that work here in the hotel," she said, watching his expression.

"You'll get one from a woman, I'll leave word with the staff."

"Don't get so worked up my demon, I'm only joking."

He pulled her closer, crushing her against him.

"Teasing me will only get you into trouble and I will have to punish you. I did bring the handcuffs and blindfold. Have a good day. I'll call you later to let you know when I'll be returning." He kissed her, making her moan and when he knew she was getting excited he pulled away.

"You kiss me like that and then stop," she said, her core was throbbing and she felt the wetness pooling between her legs.

He let out a hearty laugh.
"You are not the only one who can tease. See you soon my Angel, I love you."

When he stepped into the elevator with Gary he was still chuckling from the look on her face when he left her wanting more.

"What's so funny boss?" Gary asked when he saw him laughing.

"It's a private joke."

Once inside the car they drove off, taking the two-hour drive to their destination. Gary drove while Gabriel read over the information on Margaret Bell.

She lived alone in a secluded woodsy area away from civilization and was believed to be in her late eighties. She rarely went into town and when she did it was on foot to pick up supplies. People believed she was a witch, she acted and looked like what one would think a witch to be like.

Only a brave few had gone into the woods to get a glimpse of her home only to return scared and pale looking. They claimed her home was spooky and warned people not to go near it. Gabriel scoffed when he read it, he didn't believe in witches or anything to do with the supernatural. If he couldn't see, taste or touch it then it wasn't real.

"Is something wrong boss?"

"Not really. I just can't get over how ridiculous some people are believing in witches, such nonsense in this day and age. I wish there was an up to date picture of the old woman but my guy couldn't find any. It took years to find this much out."

"Why so long?" Gary asked, glancing over at Gabriel.

"Not knowing my wife's birth name or anything about her we had no way of finding any of her relatives. But these days with the technology he was able to use a picture of Paige and find someone that resembled her. Thing is it took the last four years to find just one match. I just hope that if she is Paige's grandmother that she's not some crazy old bat who has lost her mind."

"I could use a coffee and I need to use the bathroom," Gary said as he looked for a spot to go p*e.

"I think there's a small town up ahead, we can stop there," Gabriel answered while reading the papers over again.
"Maybe I'll pick up some flowers for the old gal, soften her up a little."

They finally came to what was one of the smallest towns ever. There was a gas station with a greasy diner next to it, there were only a couple of stores, nothing more. Pulling up to the diner they got out of the car and went inside.

"We might as well grab a bite to eat while we're here and maybe see if these people can tell us anything about Margaret Bell," Gabriel said, looking around for a clean place to sit.

The waitress came over to take their order, she was an older woman and not too friendly looking.

"What can I get you?"

"Two coffees and two of the house specials," Gabriel said and then he placed the menu down on the table.
"Do you know a woman by the name of Margaret Bell?"

"Everyone knows her, why are you asking about her?"

"We're on our way to see her. What can you tell me about her?"

The woman let out a chuckle.

"Good luck with that, she never allows anyone on her property. She comes into town once a month for supplies but never talks to anyone. People around here think she's a witch."

"Now why would they think that?" Gabriel asked, motioning for her to sit down.

The waitress sat down across from him.

"She's really creepy, has this black cat that follows her everywhere and she talks to it. She makes all of these weird potions."

Gabriel sat back and crossed his arms. "What kind of potions?"

"I don't exactly know, she just brings them into town once in a while and tries to sell them but no one will. She claims they can cure ailments, that sort of thing. One time a couple of kids decided to go into the woods to see where she lived. It was morning but when they got close to her house it turned dark. There is no electricity out there but according to the kid's bright lights were coming from inside the cabin. When they heard the hissing of cats they took off running out of the woods and never went back."

"Surely you don't believe in witches?" Gabriel asked her.

"I don't know what to believe, I've only heard stories from my grandmother about witches being in this area. Who's to say what is real and what is not. I have to get back to work now, your lunch will be ready shortly."

"I for one don't believe in witches," Gary said, taking a sip of his coffee.

Gabriel shook his head.
"This is a small town with poor people living in it. They all seem a little backward and probably do believe that Margaret is a witch, but there is no such thing."

Once the waitress brought their food over and left, the two men looked at the food. It did not look appetizing, grease was dripping from the burger and the fries were overcooked. They ate very little of it.

Finishing their coffee they got up and Gabriel threw money down on the table. As they were walking out the door the waitress called out to them.

"If I were you I'd stay clear of that place, you just might not ever be seen again."

"This town gives me the creeps," Gary said when he noticed everyone staring at them.

"It's just a town, let's go into the store and see if I can get some flowers."

As soon as they opened the door and walked in dust flew around, making Gary cough. It was a very old store with dirt floors. One man was behind the counter and there was only one customer in the store. They both turned and looked at the two well-dressed men.

"I don't suppose you sell flowers?" Gabriel asked, looking around when he spoke to the clerk.

Both the clerk and the male customer laughed.

"Nope, we don't get any call for flowers around here. So you're going to visit Mrs. Bell I hear."

"How did you know?" Gabriel asked, looking at the clerk.

"It's a small town, a population of 500 people, word travels fast."

"What can you tell me about the woman?"

"Some say she's a witch but she's just a harmless old woman, a little strange but has never hurt anyone. She's lived here her whole life. I should warn you, she doesn't like having any company around. Were you wanting flowers for her?"

"Yes."

"If you are brave enough to go through those woods good for you. You might want to take her some chocolates. Whenever she does come to town she buys a box of these," he said, holding up a box of chocolate-covered cherries.

Gabriel pulled out his wallet and paid, thanked the guy and went to walk out but stopped when the clerk called out to him.

"Is that your fancy car?"

"Yes, why do you ask?"

"It's really nice but you won't be able to drive it through the woods. You'll have to leave it on the road and walk to her place."

"How far is it from the road?" Gary asked, not liking the thought of walking too far.

"It'll take you about twenty minutes to reach the cabin, be careful of the wild animals. You might want to take a flashlight, it gets dark in the woods. I sell them here if you want to buy one."

Gabriel looked at Gary and back at the clerk.

"Alright, I'll take one," he said, once again pulling out his wallet. He was wondering if the guy only wanted to make another sale. After paying they left and getting into the car they drove off.

"Boss, I don't know about you but the people in this town seem a bit strange to me. Did you notice how they all kept staring at us, it gave me the creeps."

"I don't imagine they get many strangers that look like us coming here. Let's just go and get this over with so that I can get back to my wife."

Half an hour later they reached the path leading into the woods. They both got out of the vehicle and stood there for a few minutes.

Gary swallowed the lump in his throat as a cold chill coursed through his body.

"Boss, you don't have to do this. What are the chances that the old woman is related to your wife?"

He hated the woods, hated the creatures that hid inside them. He wasn't afraid of guns, fighting but snakes and bugs he couldn't stand.

"We're here now so we're going in." He looked at the man and smirked. "Are you afraid?"

"Me, no," he said, grabbing ahold of the flashlight, his other hand going to the gun in his pocket. "Alright, let's do this."
