⚠️🚒 Downed Power Lines & Utility Pole Crashes: What You Need to Know 🚒⚠️
Every year, emergency responders encounter incidents involving downed power lines and vehicles that have struck utility poles. These situations can be extremely dangerous, and knowing what to do can save your life.
🔌 If you see a downed power line:
• Stay far away—assume every wire is energized.
• Never drive over or walk near a downed wire.
• Keep children, pets, and bystanders away.
• Call 911 immediately and report the hazard.
🚗 If your vehicle strikes a utility pole and power lines are involved:
• Stay inside your vehicle whenever possible.
• Your vehicle may be energized, and stepping out could cause a deadly electric shock.
• Call 911 and wait for utility crews to confirm the power has been shut off.
• Only exit the vehicle if there is an immediate danger such as fire. If you must exit, jump clear with both feet together and shuffle away without lifting your feet.
