*BACK TO SCHOOL- Safety Message*
As we welcome students back to the Jeffrey Clark and Samuel Mickle Schools on Thursday, September 3, 2026, we're asking everyone to slow down, put the phone away, and give yourself a few extra minutes in the morning to share the road with our buses, walkers, and bike riders. A reminder for every driver: when a school bus shows flashing red lights and its stop arm, New Jersey law requires you to stop at least 25 feet away from either direction, and stay stopped until the lights go off. Our officers will be out in force during opening week with increased patrols around both schools and along bus routes, our School Resource Officers and crossing guards will be on post, and we'll continue using technology and resources to ensure school safety as our top priority. We hope you had a great summer, and we wish everyone at the Clark and Mickle schools a safe and successful school year!

Last week, alongside the founders of the HERO Campaign, the men and women of the EGPD unveiled the 51st HERO patrol vehicle, and the first to patrol Gloucester County. We honored John Elliott’s memory with this custom wrap, serving as a rolling reminder of sober and designated driving. John, a naval academy graduate and son to Bill and Muriel, was tragically killed by a drunk driver 26 years ago. And in his namesake, we celebrate 25 years (this month) of the legislative enactment of “John’s Law”, a legal measure that has saved countless lives in his legacy. Thank you to the Elliott’s, and to our officers who have engaged in the mission to reduce drunk driving crashes that kill an estimated 32 people each day.

TRAFFIC SAFETY ALERT: New 4-Way Stop at E. Wolfert Station Road & Union Road

Effective Friday, August 21, 2026, Gloucester County Highway converted the intersection of E. Wolfert Station Road and Union Road in the Mickleton section of East Greenwich Township from a two-way stop to a four-way stop. The overhead traffic signal that flashed yellow for through traffic for more than two decades now flashes red in all four directions.

If you drive this route regularly, please take note of the change and use caution. Motorists who previously had the right-of-way through this intersection must now come to a complete stop.

🚨 DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER 🚨

The East Greenwich Township Police Department is joining NHTSA and law enforcement agencies across the country for the Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high-visibility enforcement campaign. As we enter the latter part of the summer and the Labor Day Holiday, you’ll see increased patrols on our roads — our officers have zero tolerance for impaired driving.

Drunk driving is illegal, deadly, and 100% preventable. Even one drink can impair your ability to drive safely. Before you head out to celebrate, plan ahead:

🚗 Designate a sober driver
📱 Call a taxi or rideshare
🔑 Take the keys from a friend who’s about to drive impaired
👮 See a suspected drunk driver? Call your local police
Getting home safely is always worth it. Let’s make this Labor Day safe for everyone on the road.

The EGPD would like to welcome our newest part-time SLEO 1 officers, who were sworn in last evening by Mayor Philbin in front of friends, family and colleagues. Congratulations to Brooklyn Carcaci, Landon Aureli and Michelle Gould who join our Department's supporting staff after recently graduating the Gloucester County Police Academy. We also welcome back to the ranks, former SLEO 1 Douglas Nelson Jr., who recently moved back to the area and re-joins our team. SLEO 1 officers play a critical support role to our Department and service to the community, and we welcome our new officers!
