🚨DEADLINE EXTENDED: Students now have until Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CT to apply for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

Due to local disruptions and delayed school starts caused by the Aug. 11 storm, Unity Foundation is extending the deadline to give students additional time to submit their applications.

The scholarship will provide two outstanding La Porte County students with full tuition and required fees for four years of undergraduate study at an eligible Indiana college or university, plus up to $900 per year for required books and equipment.

Eligible applicants must:
• Be a La Porte County resident
• Graduate by June 30, 2027
• Have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.75
• Plan to begin full-time undergraduate study in Indiana in fall 2027

NIPSCO, with support from the NiSource Charitable Foundation, has contributed $400,000 to Unity Foundation to support disaster relief and long-term recovery across La Porte County.

The funding will support 13 local organizations and townships helping residents with food & necessities, debris cleanup and other urgent needs following the severe storms.

We are deeply grateful to NIPSCO and the NiSource Charitable Foundation for investing in our community’s recovery, and to the local partners who continue to work each day to help our neighbors move forward.

Two La Porte County students will be selected to receive FULL TUITION and required fees for four years of undergraduate study at an eligible Indiana college or university, plus up to $900 per year for required books and equipment.

NIPSCO is hosting a Community Support Event TODAY, August 17, in La Porte for everyone impacted by the recent storms and power outages.

Stop by for a meal, charge your devices, connect to Wi-Fi, find helpful resources, or talk with NIPSCO team members about the storm response and restoration process.

📌Event details:
• Date: Monday, August 17, 2026
• Location: La Porte Civic Auditorium, 1001 Ridge Street, La Porte, IN 46350
• Event time: Noon–6 p.m.
• Meals served: Noon and 4:30 p.m.

On Site:
• NiSource Mobile Command Unit
• Food Truck serving 500 meals at Noon and 4:30 p.m.
• Snacks, resources

• Salvation Army of La Porte County
• NIPSCO Team Members on Site: Public Affairs & Customer Service

Activities:

More meals distributed tonight (FRIDAY, August 14)

Due to widespread power outages following severe storms, The Salvation Army of Michigan City will be offering free sacked meals and bottled water to anyone in need.

These sandwiches and snacks will be ready to eat and intended to help those without refrigeration or cooking options.
