Congratulations to MEC Tyler Schlubatis on his well deserved retirement from the Coast Guard Reserves! This Chief dedicated over 20 years of faithful service to the Active and Reserve forces. He was our Senior Enlisted Reserve Advisor for Station Michigan City for the past 4 years.

Good luck to you Chief now that you have officially Retired!

Incredible views tonight at the Station. It’s been over 21 years since Indiana has gotten a solar storm at this intensity level. Nights like this in the Coast Guard will be the ones we remember! Reason #2756 to get stationed in District 9!

Some awesome training taking place this week! Today’s duty crew along with the unit’s Executive Petty Officer, Engineer Petty Officer and Operations Petty Officer lead the way with self rescues, sling rescues and even rigging some MARSARS Shuttle board rescue techniques. Proficiency in craft ensures we are Always Ready!

Ice season is here! Today our crew got out on the ice and started training. Transit techniques, self rescue drills and even partner rescues. Temperatures were single digits with windchill at -21 this morning. We will be training all week!

Well that’s a wrap for our 45 foot Response Boat Medium for the season. Station crew hauls out the 45 footer for the winter months only. Our crew will be transitioning into ice rescue training in preparation for the upcoming ice season. Already looking forward to the next boating season!
