Since joining our Department in 2022, Ryan has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to serving our community. His positive attitude, pride in the Department, and eagerness to learn and grow have made him respected among his peers.

Ryan's dedication extends far beyond his daily responsibilities. He has a tremendous passion for the fire service and currently serves as a Fire Inspector for the Department, as well as an Instructor at the Jackson County Fire Academy, where he helps train and mentor the next generation of firefighters and public safety professionals.

Those who work alongside Ryan know that if he is asked to take on a task, he will go above and beyond to ensure it is completed—and completed the right way. His work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence is unmatched.

BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING
Due to the drop in pressure in Leoni Township water supply, bacterial contamination may have occurred in the water system. Bacteria are generally not harmful and are common throughout our environment. Corrective measures are currently being undertaken to correct the situation.

A pressure drop occurred around the above area(s) due to a break in the water main. You are receiving this notice because your water supply on this section of the water system was affected.

What should I do?
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Continue using boiled or bottled water until further notice.

What happened? What is being done?
These precautionary actions are being taken due to water main break at Fifth St., caused by a contractor severing the line. Whenever a water system loses pressure for any significant length of time, precautionary measures are recommended.

The contractors are working to get pressure restored, and water staff will be taking other remedial actions such as flushing and collecting bacteriological samples from around the system. The samples will be collected to determine that the water quality meets the state drinking water standards. We will inform you when tests show no bacteria, and you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate resolving the problem by June 15, 2026

This boil water notice shall remain in effect until results from the sampling verify the water is safe to drink. Customers will be advised when the boil water advisory has been lifted.

A message from Consumers Energy:

As we prepare for two rounds of severe weather expected Wednesday and Thursday evening, our Consumers Energy team is fully staffed, pre staged across the state, and ready to respond. We stand alongside you and your communities, prepared to support local needs, including supporting your shelters or any community activations that may arise. Our priority is to ensure safety, restore power as quickly as possible, and be a reliable partner throughout the storm response.
The two waves of inclement weather are expected to occur Wednesday evening and Thursday evening. Both waves pose the risk of severe thunderstorms, high winds, flooding, and isolated tornadoes. Crews will be staged as needed, prepared to respond to restoration efforts and potential damage assessment.
"We understand losing power can be inconvenient for our customers, especially during periods of extreme weather," said Norm Kapala, Consumers Energy’s vice president of grid operations, restoration and work management. "Our customers can count on us to monitor the weather and respond accordingly with resources pre-staged across the state."
Consumers Energy urges the public to keep important safety tips in mind:
• Be alert to crews working along roadsides. Drivers should slow down or stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear so they can go safely past.
• Stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines and report unguarded downed lines by calling 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050. Consumers Energy reminds people that falsely calling in downed lines actually slows down the restoration process for everyone.
• Never use a generator in an attached garage, basement, enclosed patio or near any air intakes. Doing so could cause a generator to produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless and deadly gas. Read more guidance on safe generator use here.
• Consumers Energy will trim or remove trees interfering with electric restoration activities. Once safe to do so, clean-up of debris from tree trimming or removal during a storm emergency is the responsibility of individual property owners.
• In some cases, the mast that holds the electric service wires to a home or business may have been damaged or torn away. Crews will reconnect the wires to a home, but only a licensed electrician can repair or replace a mast or a cable.

Road Closure

The Jackson County Department of Transportation advised us that the intersection of 5th Street and Broad Street will be closed this weekend while Consumer’s Energy relocates utilities in the area. Just a heads up!
