Miami-Dade County Public School's Division of Student & Family Support Programs / Title I strives to improve the academic achievement of all students attending Title I schools. The program serves millions of children nationwide in elementary and secondary schools each year. In Miami-Dade alone, Title I serves approximately 305 schools, including charter schools. Assistance and resources are also p
rovided to private schools, and other programs. Reauthorized through the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002, (NCLB), the way Title I works is like this. The federal government provides funding to states each year for Title I. The Florida Department of Education sends the money to the District. The school District identifies eligible schools and provides Title I funds. Title I funds are then spent to provide supplemental materials for students, additional teachers, Community Involvement Services, tutoring and other programs. Our Title I Program in M-DCPS takes great pride in providing the best services and resources to our students and their families. For example, some programs and resources, funded in whole or in part, through Title I include the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Program, Challenging Higher Education for Students in our Schools (CHESS), Title I Migrant Education Program, Community Partnership for the Homeless and our Neighborhood Resource Center.
