Freshman Valeria Astudillo is supporting families experiencing financial hardship and individuals with disabilities in Ecuador through Las Manos de Jesús, a service initiative she began in 2024.
Working alongside Padre Francisco, Valeria collects school supplies, clothing, hygiene products and other essential items, which she helps distribute directly to families while spending time with the communities they serve.
Valeria’s connection to the mission began at a young age, when visits to Ecuador opened her eyes to the difficult circumstances facing many families. Those experiences inspired her to find a meaningful way to give back to a country and community that had become so important to her.
As Las Manos de Jesús continues to grow, Valeria hopes to expand its reach while building a presence at Lourdes Academy, bringing together fellow Bobcats through service opportunities, donation drives, fundraisers and events that can help the initiative serve even more families.
Through efforts like these, our students continue to recognize the needs of others and respond with compassion, putting their faith into action and making a positive impact in communities near and far.
