Two seatbelt recalls in the same news cycle; and they fail in opposite directions.
Kia has recalled certain 2026 Telluride SUVs because the seatbelt can lock up, restricting movement in ways that may affect how the restraint performs in a crash. Mercedes has recalled certain 2026 model year SUVs because seatbelt anchor bolts may be loose or missing entirely.
A seatbelt that locks, and a seatbelt that was never properly secured. Both are defects. Both put drivers and passengers at risk.
If you own a 2026 Kia Telluride or a 2026 Mercedes SUV, check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included in either recall. Do not wait for the mail.
If you were injured in an accident and a defective seatbelt was a factor, the manufacturer may bear legal responsibility beyond what any insurance settlement covers.
