The State of Florida is divided into 20 judicial circuits, or areas of jurisdiction, which encompass the circuit and county courts of the Florida State Courts System. The Miami-Dade Courts, formally known as the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, is the largest in the state and the fourth largest trial court in the nation. Its 123 Circuit and County Court judges serve a population of over two million in a 2,000 square mile area.

This year’s Wall of Honor Ceremony proudly recognized Retired Judge Marcia Caballero, celebrating her many years of dedicated service to our community. Judge Caballero leaves a lasting impact on the countless lives she touched throughout her distinguished career.

The 2026 John Balikes Award was presented to Attorney Stewart Cooke. This award honors attorneys who exemplify the highest standards of professionalism in the practice of law.

Congratulations to Judge Migna Sanchez-Llorens, who recently received the Mattie Belle Davis Award from the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers at their 46th Annual Installation & Awards Reception, held at the Pérez Art Museum.

This award honors women in the legal community who exemplify professional achievement, perseverance, equal opportunity, dedication to advancing women in the law, and the ideals embodied by Judge Mattie Belle Davis throughout her career.

We were honored to bring together our community and justice partners for an afternoon of connection and shared purpose in the continued success of our Problem-Solving Courts.

Our Chief Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan recently moderated a panel discussion titled, “From Exile to Advocacy: Jewban Journeys in Law,” at the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami.

The event, coordinated by the Cuban American Bar Association and the Jewish Lawyers Association of Miami-Dade County, brought meaningful dialogue to members of the legal community, while highlighting the contributions of Jewish and Cuban Americans to the legal profession.

The Miami-Dade Courts, in conjunction with the Broward County Courts, have issued new requirements related to the use of generative artificial intelligence (“AI”) in court filings.

Under Administrative Order 26-15 (linked below), attorneys and self-represented litigants who use AI in the preparation of court filings must disclose its use and verify that the information in the court filing was independently verified by the filing party.

“The Eleventh Judicial Circuit recognizes the importance of consistency and uniformity in the administration of justice concerning the disclosure of generative AI use in court filings and submissions and issues this Administrative Order in coordination with the Administrative Order No. 2026-03 issued by the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit in Broward County,” said Chief Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan.

Chief Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan!

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida unveiled its new Ariana Fajardo Orshan Mock Courtroom & Training Center yesterday, named in honor of our Chief Judge and former U.S. Attorney Ariana Fajardo Orshan for her leadership and previous service to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
