Miami Community Police Benevolent Association The Miami Community Police Benevolent Association is a predominantly African-American organization of about 250 members.

However, other ethnicities are welcome to join, provided that they adhere to the Mission Statement.

Members, our Black History Month Celebration message was hijacked by people and systems with agendas. Our Black History Month car wrap and badge is about honoring our retired leaders, creating a funding source for the Black Police Precinct Courthouse and Museum and creating symbols of pride. It is not lost on us that policing started as slave patrols. We have become officers and have acquired nearly all positions within a law enforcement community that has been oppressive to African Americans; however, we stand in the gap between the communities we serve and law enforcement. We pridefully stand behind our car wrap and badge.

Bro. Smith served in the US Armed Forces. He was a Staff Sergeant from 1979 to 1990. Bro. Smith served in numerous capacities at MPD. He was proud to be a Field Training Officer in the North District on the midnight shift. He was also a Training Officer in the Training Unit. When Bro. Smith retired, he served as a Reserve Officer and conducted his volunteer hours at the Historic Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum. Bro. Smith was a proud For many years independent associate for LegalSheild.

Our Story

In 1944 five black men became the City of Miami’s first black patrolmen. They were denied the rights that were given to their white counterparts. One of those rights was to join the local PBA. It was with courage and tenacity that those very men decided to make history. They founded the Miami Colored Police Benevolent Association (MCPBA) in 1946.

Equality and community service are the cornerstone of our organization. To date, the MCPBA, who changed its name to the Miami Community Police Benevolent Association, has over 240 members of various ethnic backgrounds and is proud to be the nation's second oldest black police officers organization.
