Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark that preserves its cultural and environmental resources to engage people in connecting with the past, understanding the present and shaping the future. Built between 1914 and 1922 as the winter home of farming manufacturer James Deering, Vizcaya is one of the most intact remaining examples from this era in United States history, when the n

ation’s most successful entrepreneurs built estates inspired by the stately homes of Europe. Vizcaya features a Main House filled with a decorative art collection, 10 acres of formal gardens, a rockland hammock (native forest), mangrove shore, and a historic village that is being restored to tell Vizcaya’s full story and provide additional spaces for programs and community outreach, including those on agriculture. Vizcaya has been a community hub since it opened to the public in 1953; it welcomes about 300,000 visitors annually.

39 years ago today, Vizcaya became the backdrop for a meeting between two of the world's most influential leaders.

On September 10, 1987, President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II met at Vizcaya to discuss peace, justice, and freedom.

From conversations inside the Main House to a stroll through the gardens, these photographs capture a historic day when two of the world's most influential leaders gathered at Vizcaya. The chairs seen here remain part of Vizcaya's collection, connecting visitors to this remarkable moment nearly four decades later.

In 1916, music and artistry merged to create this musical masterpiece! 🎹

Commissioned by James Deering and designed in collaboration with his artistic director, Paul Chalfin, this one-of-a-kind grand piano was crafted by the legendary Steinway & Sons. It features intricate foliage-scroll motifs, designed to harmonize with the harpsichord on display in the Music Room. You can also see James Deering's last initial in the center of the lid.

This piano didn’t just reaffirm music as a cornerstone of entertainment at Vizcaya—it also became a symbol of elegance, culture, and impeccable craftsmanship.

From La Bohème to La Campanella, and even foxtrots and tangos, music played from this hidden instrument traveled through a vent into the Breakfast Room, creating the perfect soundtrack for James Deering's meals.

Monday, but make it gilded. ✨

We don't know what this little figure was thinking when it struck this pose, but it feels suspiciously similar to opening your inbox after the weekend. From the intricate curls to the shimmering gilded robe, this small figure proves that great craftsmanship can capture attention centuries later... and accidentally become a perfect Monday meme.

Fortunately, Mondays don't have to be all dramatic gestures and existential stares. A visit to Vizcaya comes with waterfront views, historic interiors, and significantly fewer emails.

No sabemos qué pensaba esta pequeña figura cuando adoptó esta pose, pero se parece sospechosamente a abrir tu bandeja de entrada después del fin de semana.
