Safe at Home Ramp Program & Handicap Accessibility Modifications supports Shawnee citizens who need wheelchair ramps or other home improvements to enhance accessibility such as, but not limited to widening doorways and installing handrails. The ramps are built following ADA guidelines and are safe, strong, portable, and durable.

The USDA Forest Service, National Partnership Office (NPO), and Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) are offering an internship opportunity for up to two young Native adults in their Fire/Fuels program on our Homelands - the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois.

Shawnee National Forest – AmeriCorps – Individual Placement Opportunity

Position Title: Fuels Technician – AmeriCorps – Individual Placement
Conservation Legacy Program: Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC)
Site Location: USDA Forest Service | Shawnee National Forest | Murphysboro, IL 62966

Service Term:
• Start Date: No later than September 14, 2026
• End Date: No later than August 29, 2027
• AmeriCorps Classification: 1,700 hours (46–48 weeks)

Please note: Government housing will not be provided. However, ALCC and Forest Service staff will assist selected candidates in securing suitable housing arrangements near the reporting site.

Qualifications:
• United States Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident
• At least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• Agree to provide information establishing eligibility and complete a National Service Criminal History Check
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and personal vehicle for commuting
• Ability to complete the Work Capacity Test (WCT) for wildland firefighters at the moderate level or higher

Benefits:
• Segal AmeriCorps Education Award: $7,395
• Living Allowance: $650 per week
• Additional Benefit: $200 per week
• Public Land Corps (PLC) Hiring Authority Certificate
