Did you know The Arc of South Florida has been part of this community since 1953?

What began with a group of parents advocating for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities has grown into decades of advocacy, opportunity and support for individuals and families across South Florida.

More than 70 years later, the mission continues: creating opportunities, promoting inclusion and helping people with disabilities live meaningful lives in their communities.

September is National Preparedness Month.

Preparedness is more than having supplies. It means making sure emergency plans reflect the real needs of the people who will use them.

For individuals with disabilities and their families, that can include medications, assistive devices, communication needs, transportation, backup power and a trusted support network.

This month, take time to review your plan, update your emergency kit and make sure the people in your support circle know what to do.

Today, we’re proud to highlight Estefany Ferrera, a valued employee of The Arc of South Florida team, who was selected by United Way to share her personal journey of resilience, family, and new beginnings during a special event in collaboration with Publix.

Estefany spoke openly about overcoming difficult circumstances, rebuilding her life, reuniting with her children, and the people and organizations who supported her along the way. Her story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when individuals and families have access to encouragement, opportunity, and a community that believes in them.

We are grateful to United Way for providing a platform for stories like Estefany’s and for its continued support of organizations and families throughout our community.

Estefany, thank you for sharing your story with courage and for reminding us that second chances, support, and hope can make a lasting difference.
