Been warming up to step up to the mound again! ⚾

I’ll be throwing out the first pitch at the Mets vs. Marlins game on Tuesday, September 8 as part of Hospitality & Tourism Appreciation Night. This will be my third year in a row on the mound, and I’m going for the strike again!

Grateful for everyone who works around the clock to welcome visitors to our city. This pitch is for you.

Pedestrian safety is public safety. Building the 5th Street Pedestrian Bridge has hit a snag. The developer’s engineers argue that critical utility conflicts make the original design infeasible. I’m bringing an initiative for an independent City evaluation of those findings. If confirmed, I’m pushing to move swiftly for a safe over-water pedestrian connection instead, with the developer’s and City’s financial obligations transferring to the new structure. A safe crossing at this major intersection is non-negotiable. Read more: [https://bit.ly/5thStreetPedBridge]

I sent a letter today to state officials regarding FDOT’s decision to revoke License Plate Reader (LPR) permits on state roads. Since sending the letter, several Mayors have joined me in signing, with more to come.

I share the state’s respect for privacy rights and recognize the legitimate concerns that prompted the decision. But a blanket revocation with no transition plan puts public safety at risk. LPR technology has helped Miami Beach trace fleeing suspects, remove illegal weapons and drugs, recover stolen vehicles, and solve violent crimes. I’m asking for a balanced approach with real oversight addressing privacy concerns, not an outright ban. Our residents deserve both privacy and safety.

FDOT just revoked permits for Automated License Plate Readers (LPRs) on state roads, giving us 30 days to rip out technology that’s helped our Police track fleeing suspects, get guns off our streets, and arrest violent criminals.

This is a hit to public safety. I’m bringing legislation to take back control of our roads from the State. Our residents deserve better.

Exciting to see the Civilian Volunteer Patrol continue to grow! The CVP was an initiative I spearheaded to put more eyes and ears on our streets. It’s a cost-effective, visible presence that helps deter crime alongside Miami Beach PD. We’re now up to nearly 20 dedicated volunteers giving their time to keep Miami Beach safe.
