Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) has officially picked up the last of the Colombia earthquake relief donations from our fire stations!

Thanks to the generosity of our community, truckloads of critical supplies were collected to help support those impacted by the earthquakes. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stations and donated.

Planning to get out on the water this Labor Day weekend? 🚤

If you’re paying for a boat trip, make sure the captain has a valid Merchant Mariner Credential and a safety plan in place. Illegal charter operations may not have the proper safety equipment or follow the same safety standards, which can put passengers at risk.

August was another busy month!

We welcomed Miami Beach students back to school, hosted Volunteer Florida CEO Josie Tamayo for a special visit to our Emergency Operations Center, cheered on our Ocean Rescue lifeguards as they competed in the USLA National Lifeguard Championships and much more.

The Miami Beach Fire Department's Division of Emergency Management will be offering a Basic In-class Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in Spanish at Fire Station 2.

The three-day Spanish training will be offered in person on Saturday, September 26, Sunday, September 27 and Saturday, October 3.

9 AM - 5 PM
2310 Pine Tree Drive, 3rd floor

Participants will learn disaster preparedness, CERT organization, disaster medical operations such as Stop-The-Bleed, disaster psychology, fire safety and utility control, light search and rescue and more.

Congratulations to Lt. Navas and Firefighter Sica on becoming certified Public Safety SCUBA Instructors (PSSI)!

After an intensive five-day training, they can now certify our department members as public safety divers and share their skills and knowledge with our team.

This is an impressive achievement that helps strengthen our department’s dive rescue capabilities. Congratulations!

Meet Shari Holbert Lipner, our Emergency Management Division Administrator!

A City of Miami Beach employee since 2006, Shari helps oversee the many programs and initiatives that keep our community prepared. Her work ranges from community outreach and preparedness messaging to ensuring city departments have emergency plans in place and working with local partners to reduce the impacts of natural disasters before they happen.

Shari also works closely with the Miami-Dade Department of Emergency Management and the Florida Division of Emergency Management to help ensure the city’s emergency management efforts meet established standards and requirements.

Beyond Miami Beach, Shari is an active member of the International Association of Emergency Managers and currently serves as chair of the organization’s Municipal Emergency Management Caucus.

Her work helps strengthen preparedness not only within our city, but throughout the emergency management community. We’re lucky to have Shari as part of our Emergency Management team!

Monday, August 31 is the final day to contribute donations in support of earthquake relief efforts in Colombia. All items collected will be delivered by Global Empowerment Mission.

Donations are being accepted daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at our Fire Stations.

All City of Miami Beach Fire Stations are accepting donation items now through Monday, August 31 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
