🚧 News: Miami Beach Convention Center Builds Momentum with Expansion and Upgrades

The Miami Beach Convention Center continues to invest in projects that enhance the guest experience, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen Miami Beach's position as a leading destination for meetings, conventions, trade shows, and special events.

Recent improvements include a full LED lighting conversion in the exhibit halls, the installation of large-format LED video walls and digital displays throughout the campus, venue-wide Wi-Fi 7 technology, and upgrades to key building systems. Together, these enhancements support a more connected, efficient, and modern experience for event organizers, exhibitors, and attendees.

Looking ahead, one of the most significant developments for the campus is the future Grand Hyatt Miami Beach. The 17-story hotel will feature 800 guest rooms, including 52 suites, four floors of meeting and ballroom space, a rooftop pool deck, restaurant and retail concepts, and a direct skybridge connection to the Convention Center. The project will help attract new events that require a connected headquarters hotel while further strengthening Miami Beach's position in the global meetings and conventions market.

"The realization of a physically connected 800-room headquarter hotel marks a historic milestone and a real gamechanger for the MBCC, Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County," said Freddie Peterson, General Manager of the Miami Beach Convention Center, managed by Oak View Group. "While the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach is the centerpiece of a dynamic growth phase, other important enhancements are taking shape throughout the campus. Since completing the venue's landmark $640 million reimagining in 2020, the City of Miami Beach has continued to invest in strategic improvements that ensure the MBCC remains among the premier convention destinations in the world."

Beyond the MBCC campus, additional investments throughout the Convention Center District, including improvements to cultural institutions, public spaces, hospitality offerings, and surrounding attractions, continue to enhance the visitor experience and support the area's long-term growth.

⚽🌎 World Cup excitement is rolling through Miami Beach!

Our MBCC team recently visited one of the City's Arena of Nations installations, part of a citywide celebration leading up to the FIFA World Cup 2026. The initiative features 48 giant soccer balls placed throughout Miami Beach, each representing one of the nations competing in this year's tournament.

🌱 Florida Sustainability Leaders Summit

The Miami Beach Convention Center was proud to be represented at the Florida Sustainability Leaders Summit by Zoie Tirona, Marketing & Sustainability Coordinator. Organized through GOAL, Oak View Group's sustainability recognition and measurement platform, the summit brought together sustainability professionals, business leaders, and innovators from across Florida to share ideas and explore solutions for advancing environmental performance.

Discussions covered topics ranging from climate resilience and resource efficiency to sustainable operations and the future of sustainability. The event provided a valuable opportunity to learn from industry experts, exchange best practices, and connect with organizations driving meaningful change.

📺 The MBCC General Manager Freddie Peterson was recently interviewed by CBS Miami’s Betty Nguyen about the significant economic impact the Miami Beach Convention Center has on our local tourism economy.

Small businesses benefit from the conference and meeting attendees who stay in our hotels, dine in our restaurants, and partake in our community’s many hospitality offerings. Even stores like Ace Hardware, spotlighted in the segment, benefit from exhibitors who shop locally to buy supplies for their booths and displays.

A single event, such as the upcoming Sibos show, can have a $40 million impact.

The highly anticipated completion of the Grand Hyatt in 2027 will be a game changer for our destination, attracting new premier events that require a connected headquarters hotel. The $600 million investment—featuring 17 stories, 800 guest rooms (including 52 suites), four floors of meeting and ballroom space, a rooftop pool deck, and restaurant, bar, and retail concepts—will be seamlessly connected to the MBCC through a glass-enclosed skybridge.

This project will elevate the overall offering and bring even more economic impact to the region through visitor spending, tax revenue, and job creation.

Issued by the Events Industry Council (EIC), it validates an individual’s comprehensive knowledge, experience, and adherence to professional standards in the meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry.

This achievement reflects Matthew’s dedication to the events industry and his commitment to continued professional growth. Matthew Garcia serves as the Senior Event Manager for Oak View Group at the Miami Beach Convention Center and has also previously earned the Sustainable Event Professional Certificate (SEPC) through the EIC.
