New Emergency Exit Signs Being Installed to Improve Community Safety
Residents and visitors of Mi Wuk Village and Sugar Pine may notice new additions around the community—illuminated emergency exit signs pointing the way to Highway 108. These signs are designed to guide people quickly and safely to the most direct route to the highway, especially in the event of an emergency such as a wildfire. Their visibility at night adds an extra layer of safety for anyone navigating under stressful or low-light conditions.
The vision for these signs started in discussions amongst the Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District’s Fire Board. After sharing the idea with Kelly Smith, a local Farmers Insurance agent in Twain Harte, the project quickly gained traction. Kelly not only supported the concept but generously funded the effort.
The Mi Wuk Area Homeowners Alliance (MAHA) also contributed funding, ensuring the project’s success. Installation has been a true community effort, with the Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District and its Community Support Assistance Team (CAST), assisting with placement and setup of the signs.
This collaboration reflects the strength of our community—neighbors, organizations, our local Fire District, and local leaders working together to improve safety and preparedness.
