🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE 🚨

Candler County Emergency Management is partnering with Bulloch County EMA and the Tri-County 911 Center on a new AED registration initiative.

Beginning July 1, Georgia’s new AED legislation will help 911 dispatchers identify nearby Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) during cardiac emergencies. The goal is simple — get lifesaving equipment to people faster when every second matters.

We are asking businesses, churches, schools, gyms, industries, organizations, and community groups across Candler County to register any AEDs they may have in their facilities or vehicles.

The information will be accessible to 911 dispatchers and emergency responders to improve emergency response throughout our area.

If you have an AED, please take a few minutes to register it here:

This is a simple step that could help save a life.

🌀 Hurricane Season 2026 Begins Today 🌀

Today marks the official start of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Forecasters are predicting a slightly below-average season this year, largely due to a strong El Niño pattern. Historically, El Niño years can reduce the overall number of tropical systems in the Atlantic Basin.

But let me say this loud and clear… it only takes one.

Hurricane Idalia impacted us during an El Niño year. Then in 2024, Hurricane Helene hit Candler County with a knockout punch unlike anything most of us have ever seen. Days without power, roads blocked all across the county, communications down, and recovery efforts that lasted for months. It was, without question, one of the worst storms to hit this area in generations.

But we made it through it together.

That storm reminded us that tropical weather is not just a coastal problem. Candler County absolutely can and will be impacted by hurricanes and tropical systems. Experience has taught us to take hurricane season seriously, no matter what the seasonal forecast says.

Here at Candler County EMA, preparations are already well underway. Planning, training, equipment checks, communications testing, EOC readiness, coordination with our public safety partners, and reviewing lessons learned from Helene have been ongoing for months now.

Now is the time for everyone else to start getting ready too.

Review your emergency plans.
Check your generators and supplies.
Make sure you have a way to receive emergency alerts.
Prepare now while the weather is calm.

We’ll continue to keep the public updated throughout the season as conditions warrant.

Stay prepared, Candler County.

🌙 Saturday Night in Candler County

Buckle up.

It’s Saturday night in Candler County, and some of y’all are already acting like the moon is full.

Deputies are about an hour into shift change and already talking about folks acting absolutely feral tonight.

Dang, the new jail ain’t even opened yet, and some of y’all are already trying to reserve a room.

Most folks are gonna eat supper, maybe ride around a little bit, maybe stop by the store, and call it a night. That’s how it ought to be.

But somewhere out there right now, Uncle Jailbird Jimmy is getting wound up on corn liquor, Colombian bam bam, and gas station caffeine. I can feel it.

Before the night’s over, somebody just might earn two claps and a Ric Flair from the audience watching it go down on the way downtown. WOOOOOO!

Seriously though… some of y’all need to calm down a little bit tonight.

Y’all be safe and look out for each other.

⚠️ Weather Update – Candler County ⚠️

Candler County Emergency Management Agency is continuing to monitor the weather event impacting our area this evening. Thunderstorms moving through the county are producing heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.

At this time, approximately 5% of the county is without power. Excelsior EMC crews are already hard at work addressing outages and restoring service as quickly and safely as possible.

All public safety systems, including communications and emergency response services, remain fully operational.

If you are utilizing a generator during this outage, please remember the following safety tips:
• Never operate a generator inside a home, garage, or enclosed area.
• Keep generators away from doors, windows, and vents to prevent carbon monoxide exposure.
• Allow generators to cool before refueling.
• Use heavy-duty outdoor-rated extension cords.
• Never backfeed power into your home unless connected through an approved transfer device.

We encourage citizens to use caution while traveling, avoid flooded roadways, and remain weather aware through the evening hours.
