This week, Chief Dave Toto, Assistant Chief Dan Donahue, and the Methuen Fire Department participated in one of our favorite events, the Annual Senior Dinner. Our firefighters and several of their family members prepared and served an Italian feast for seniors at the Methuen Senior Activity Center. The meal included spaghetti, meatballs, sausage, and fresh Italian bread. In addition, we offered dessert, coffee, and refreshments. Special thanks to the great people at Piro’s Italian Bakery for donating the bread and Galloway Convenience Store for donating the propane to help cook the meal. We appreciate everything that the Methuen Senior Center does our community and are pleased to be a longtime partner in service.

SAVE THE DATE: Methuen Veterans’ Day Parade, Wednesday, November 11  beginning at 10 AM at the American Legion, 200 Broadway. Please join us in honoring America’s Veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Parade Route: North on Broadway, left at the clock tower onto Hampshire Street, left onto Lowell Street, past the Central Fire Station, left onto Grove Street to the Legion Memorial plot in Walnut Grove Cemetery for a brief ceremony. After the ceremony, the parade will reform and return to the American Legion via the same route.

The Methuen Fire Department sends congrats and much praise to Methuen native and 2007 Methuen High School graduate Justin Deflumeri. In September, Deflumeri continued to use his athleticism to help others. He ran across all of the New England states to benefit the Hero Pups Organization. This agency provides service dogs to military veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD. Along his route, he stopped off at our North Station and took a photo with Firefighter Dave Eddy, Lt. Jody Ste. Marie, and Firefighter John Berube. Deflumeri’s road warrior mentality has helped so many people in need. We appreciate his hard work and dedication.

This past week, Methuen Firefighters Local 1691 sponsored and cooked the team meal for the Methuen High School varsity football team. This has become one of the Union’s favorite endeavors throughout the year. It’s so great to support our local student athletes given the hard work they put in all season long. We appreciate head coach Ryan Dugan, his staff, and all of the players. Go Rangers!

Today, Lieutenant Ryan Fortune was honored by Wellpoint and 98.5 The Sports Hub for heroism he displayed on August 14, 2026. While off duty at Salisbury Beach, Lieutenant Fortune noticed the start of a fire at the oceanfront residences. He immediately jumped into action and rescued several people from the building. With no protective clothing, he also helped arriving Salisbury firefighters pull hoses in order to fight the blaze. Salisbury Fire Department Chief Scott Carrigan was on hand today and offered his congratulations and thanks to Lieutenant Fortune. Mayor Beauregard and Chief Toto also spoke, along with representatives from Wellpoint and 98.5. A surprised Lieutenant Fortune was humble and gracious in his comments. We congratulate Ryan on his continued service, not only to our community, but to anyone in need. We are proud of you.
