Today we celebrate the 104th Birthday of the United States Army Warrant Officer Corps. On July 9th, 1918 an act of congress established the the Army Mine Planter Service as part of the Coast Artillery Corps. The act authorized a total of 40 Warrant Officers to serve as masters, mates, chief engineers, and assistant engineers on each mine planting vessel. The history of the Warrant Officer reaches back much farther, to medieval times when expert sailers were appointed as officers by royal warrants to operate ships for the Royal Navy. Today Warrant Officers serve and lead through technical expertise and operate some of the military’s most complex and tactical systems. Happy Birthday Warrant Officer Cohort!

It was an honor to be selected to cut the cake at our Warrant Officer Birthday ceremony as the MA National Guard’s newest appointed Warrant Officer, alongside our Command Chief Warrant Officer, CW5 Vincent and BG Minor.
