LEAF is such an amazing program that you'll hear about throughout the year! Every student at Murphy has a LEAF bank account that they can use to practice saving for life beyond their school years. Although you may have a college fund set up for your students already, these accounts are meant to help children learn HOW to save. Every deposit is celebrated, no matter how small! Our first Deposit Day at Murphy is October 13th!

The LEAF Lapeer County program is back for another school year! 💲🎉

A quick reminder that LEAF accounts are automatically opened for all LCS students in **E5 through 7th grade!** This year, we’re excited to help even more students learn the importance of saving for their future!

📅 The LEAF Deposit Day schedules for each school are below! Be sure to mark the dates on your calendar and have your students start saving now! Maybe they can feed the dog, help unload the dishwasher, water the plants, or find another way to earn their own money to save. 💰

Remember, LEAF is about students learning how to save and build good financial habits. It is not intended to replace or take the place of any education savings a parent or family may already have.

And because saving should be fun… LEAF has some special surprises planned for students who make a deposit! 🎉

🌱 LEAF is growing—and so is our impact!

We’re thrilled to share that the Lapeer County Community Foundation has received $75,000 in funding from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) through the Michigan Children’s Savings Account (CSA) Program Innovation & Sustainability Initiative, administered by CEDAM: The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan

This initiative supports established CSA programs as they strengthen long-term sustainability, accessibility, and impact.

The Lapeer County LEAF is part of the Michigan CSA Network and continues to be recognized as a leader and innovator in this field. Through LEAF, students across Lapeer County are connected early with community-based savings accounts that help them begin thinking about—and planning for—the postsecondary pathway that’s right for them.

This new funding will help us expand LEAF 360!, our innovative whole-child approach that connects students and families with resources supporting medical, physical, mental and socio-emotional, and financial health. It will also allow us to strengthen partnerships, refine our approach, and share what we’re learning with CSA programs across Michigan.

We’re grateful for this investment in Lapeer County students and families and excited about what’s ahead. When a community comes together to help kids dream big, the possibilities are pretty amazing. 💚🌱

Mrs. Gleason’s class had a wonderful first experience with Mrs. Martin in STEM class today!

Mrs. Chouinard and Mr. Back’s classes had so much fun doing a special science activity in the gym today. In the lesson, students were learning about pushes and pulls— forces! They decorated a folded piece of cardboard, and then made their “Hopper Popper” jump high into the air, propelled by the pulling force of a rubber band! Science rocks!
