“Hiring college students, as easy as calling an Uber.” 💙🤍
Since I started UniServices (now Stunio) my dream has been to make a platform that was the Uber of odd-jobs, for college students. As you can imagine, that’s indescribably hard because tech is so hard and expensive to make.
But it’s an important problem to solve. 80% of students have less than $1,000 to their name, and 20% have less than $100 in their bank account. Other part-time jobs don’t cut it, often not paying good or being flexible enough for students to work and go to school effectively.
The efficiency with which services like Uber, Lyft, or DoorDash connect you to a driver isn't accidental. It's the result of intricate software algorithms working behind the scenes, pinpointing the ideal driver and matching them to your task within milliseconds. This phenomenal tech innovation drives these companies' billion-dollar profit engines. But, again, it’s indescribably difficult to make.
My co-founders Hemkesh and Collin and I decided to keep things simple when we started last year, focusing on easier designs and concepts than an Uber-like model. We built two apps, and wefound rapid success - students across the country were desperately wanting a better way to make money during school. And for local residents and businesses alike, finding reliable and trustworthy part-time help is nearly impossible to do quickly.
Yet, our apps caught the attention of big investors from all over the country. This gave us the fuel to expand our team and put our all into this startup, despite the allure of other opportunities waiting for us after graduation.
But we always wanted more from our tech. Even when we were told to stop, to change, to go smaller - we just kept pushing. We trusted in our vision and wanted to go bigger like Uber.
Now, I’m excited to share that our initial dream of making hiring college students as easy as calling an Uber, is soon to be here. With the dedicated learning and diligence of the genius-himself Hemkesh, buttressed by the incredible talents and passion of our advisors from Meta and Google, we’ve created something you won’t want to miss with Stunio. Official launch on September 1st!
It’s super simple:
Post Your Job: Simply enter the job details, price, and time on our app or website.
We Find the Students: Our algorithm ranks eligible students, notifying them in 90-second intervals until your job is booked.
Job Gets Done: Once booked, the student receives instructions and heads to your home or business. Simple and efficient.
There are a plethora of amazing safety features we’ve implemented to ensure all users are safe, comfortable, and ensured of their well-being. This is a community that we love, and safety is #1 priority.
We’ve eliminated many aspects of the previous versions that elongated the time from posted job to completed job. Where jobs took 5-7 days to get booked and completed, now our users can expect jobs to get booked in 5-10 minutes, and completed at the specified time they’ve set.
We are finalizing partnerships with university officials and will begin expansion into new colleges/states in the coming fall/new year. We’re excited to take on the market with our new product, full-time team, expert advisors, investment, and a whole lot of energy!
