📣 Important Membership Renewal Update

Scouting America has announced that the current membership lapse period will be phased out and will end on **December 31, 2026**.

🔹 What Is Changing?

The lapse period has allowed members a short grace period after their renewal date before their membership becomes inactive. As Scouting America moves toward a simpler and more consistent renewal system, this lapse period will gradually be reduced and then eliminated.

📅 Key Dates

✅ Members with an **October 2026** renewal date will be the last to receive the full **two-month lapse period**.

✅ Members with a **November 2026** renewal date will receive a **one-month lapse period**.

✅ Members with a **December 2026** renewal date will receive **no lapse period**.

Beginning in September 2026, new and renewing units will use the standard charter fee plus pro rata fees through February 2028.

📅 Beginning January 1, 2027, members must be current in their registration to maintain active status.

Unit leaders, committee members, and families should begin planning ahead to ensure memberships are renewed on time and there is no interruption in participation, advancement, or registration status.

More information will be shared as Scouting America continues implementing its simplified membership and renewal processes.

🚜🌲 Progress Continues at Camp V-Bar! 🌲🚜
Despite receiving nearly 19 inches of rain over the past week, the Salmen Scouts team continues to make a major impact across Salmen Scout Reservation. 💪
✅ Prepared 372 feet of Castle Road Spur
✅ Installed 7 culverts
✅ Completed extensive V-ditching on camp roads
✅ Continued dam and sinkhole repair projects
✅ Improved access roads throughout camp

The weather has certainly presented challenges, but the dedication and hard work of these talented men and women continue to move critical infrastructure projects forward. Their efforts are helping ensure Camp V-Bar remains a premier outdoor destination for Scouts for years to come.

As Rotation 2 wraps up and Rotation 3 arrives, we extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved for their service, commitment, and partnership in improving Salmen Scout Reservation.

This morning, Fleur de Lis District Executive Louie Messina and Camp V-Bar Handicraft Director Zac Lusk appeared on WWL-TV's Great Day Louisiana to share a little Scouting fun with viewers across the Gulf South!

During the segment, they demonstrated some basic Scout knot-tying skills and highlighted the incredible adventures waiting for Scouts at Camp V-Bar Summer Camp. 🏕️🌲

From learning practical outdoor skills to building confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships, Scouting continues to provide experiences that last a lifetime.

🚨 Important Update for All Scout Leaders 🚨
All current Youth Protection Training (YPT) certifications expire May 31, 2026. To stay active and continue serving, all leaders must complete the new Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) before this date.
🔹 SYT replaces YPT and includes updated policies and best practices to keep every Scout safe.
✅ Action Steps:
• Log in to My.Scouting.org
• Complete Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) before May 31
⚠️ Leaders who miss the deadline will not be considered current and cannot participate in Scouting activities.
Let’s stay committed to creating a safe, positive environment for every Scout.
