This week’s theme is “Matches and Lighters Safety.” Between 2007 and 2011 an average of 49,300 fires involving play were reported annually. These fires caused annual averages of 80 deaths and 860 civilian injuries, and $235 million in property damage.

Call 9-1-1 – Teach children to call 911 in an emergency. Make sure they can distinguish between emergency and non-emergency situations and that they know how to dial 9-1-1.

Children and Fire Safety – Parents, it is important that you teach children that fire is FAST, fire is HOT, fire is DARK, and fire is DEADLY. It is also important to teach children what to do if there is a fire, especially ones under 4 who have a higher risk of dying in a fire.
