This is the long awaited for truck. First and foremost I want to think the Emergency manager at the time Mitch Cooper he was instrumental in writing the Grant that got this truck. Bob Steinberg as well as NC Senator Bobby Hanig made this funding possible. Five years ago I would’ve never thought we would ever see a new fire truck at our station. But North Carolina general assembly made it possible. I would also like to think the Law Office of Hornthal Riley Ellis & Maland for their legal help over the past four months. I would also like to think the current Emergency manager, John Rawls for his help with communication with the county.

A fire that could have spread into a rural catastrophe due to dry drought conditions was quickly extinguished Tuesday.

“At the end of the day, I feel like a mushroom. They’re keeping us in the dark and feeding us garbage.”

Good morning! Given dry conditions with minimum relative humidity of 25-30% and WSW winds gusting to 20-25mph, there is an increased fire danger risk across southern/southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina today.

04/12/2026

Dry and warm conditions are expected across the area this week, with relative humidity values dropping to 30% or less for inland locations in the afternoon starting Monday. This dry airmass, combined with gusty winds and the lack of rainfall may lead to elevated fire danger.
