Hey there Brevard County boating friends! We'll be doing FREE vessel exams this Saturday, February 21 at Kelly Park in Merritt Island. Come see us in the boat ramp area from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and get your 2026 Vessel Safety decal. You'll need your vessel registration, PFDs, visual distress signals, sound-producing devices, fire extinguishers, and working navigation lights. There is no penalty for failure to pass the exam - we'll just tell you what you need for next time. See you there!

SR 401 BRIDGE ALERT FOR MARINERS: Long-term maintenance work on the SR 401 bridge beginning April 2 through September 28, 2025 will affect marine traffic. Work will not affect SR401 roadway traffic.

The SR 401 Bridges will provide single-leaf openings with a 4-hour notice for a full opening, per its specific requirements 33 CFR 117.273(b). Public vessels of the United States and vessels declaring an emergency shall be passed at any time.

Additionally, the channel will be partially obstructed under the spans while painting is occurring. A one-hour advanced notice will be required for vessels needing more than 45 feet of horizontal clearance but can safely pass with the spans in the down (closed) position. This temporary deviation is effective for 180 days. If the contractor needs to extend the temporary deviation beyond September 28, 2025, please contact the Coast Guard on or before August 1, 2025, provide the reason(s) for and how long the extension will be needed.
