It was a very active and successful week for the members of Marine Corps League Brevard County Detachment 513.
On Thursday evening, we held our monthly detachment meeting at the Department of Florida Convention site in Melbourne. During the meeting, one new member was sworn in, and another member was presented his membership ribbon and ID card.
On Friday, during the Military Order of the Devil Dogs Florida Pack Growl, we were honored to be visited by Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey. Members of the Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit also provided an outstanding demonstration. During the Growl, Rick Bedford was elected Senior Vice Pack Leader, and Chuck Betz was elected Smart Dog for the Florida Pack. We are also proud to share that Space Coast Pound 273 was named Florida Pack Pound of the Year. Congratulations as well to Chris Wier and Gary Corbett, who were advanced to Devil Dog after completing their day-long initiation.
On Saturday morning, Heather Betz, John Kayda, and Vinnie Howard raised the morning colors. Shortly after, Chris Wier joined them as they provided the color guard for the opening ceremonies at the Department of Florida joint meeting.
We also recognize Vinnie Howard, who turned over his position as Department of Florida Eagle Scout Liaison after nine outstanding years of dedicated service.
Later that evening at the banquet, Heather Betz was honored as the Department of Florida Associate Member of the Year.
Congratulations to everyone involved. Detachment 513, Space Coast Pound 273, and our members represented themselves with pride, professionalism, and dedication throughout the convention.
