Team Rubicon is OUT IN FORCE in Merrillville — and They're Here to Help YOU! 💪

Merrillville, we just want to take a moment to say — WOW. 🙌
Right now, Team Rubicon's incredible volunteers are out in our neighborhoods working hard to help clean up yards and properties damaged by the June 11th tornado — and they are doing it completely FREE of charge.

These are military veterans and first responders who showed up for our community without hesitation, and we couldn't be more grateful to have them here. 💙

👉 Walk up to any Team Rubicon volunteer you see working in your neighborhood — they are happy to help!
👉 Call 211 to report damage to your home and request volunteer assistance

Their services are 100% free. They will not ask you for money. They will not ask for your insurance. The only thing they may ask you to sign is a simple waiver allowing them onto your property to do the work.

🐢💚 Sea Turtle Day Fun at Active Day! 💚🐢

Yesterday was National Sea Turtle Day, and our members celebrated by creating their very own sea turtles! 🎨🌊

Using colorful paper, markers, and a little imagination, everyone designed a unique turtle masterpiece. From bright shells to smiling faces, each creation was as special as the person who made it. 😊

Did you know sea turtles can live for decades and travel thousands of miles throughout their lifetime? Just like these amazing creatures, our members continue to inspire us with their resilience, strength, and ability to keep moving forward every day. 💙

We had so much fun learning about sea turtles while getting creative together. Activities like these help encourage creativity, fine motor skills, and social engagement while making lasting memories along the way.

A big thank you to Amazon for their generous donation of cleaning supplies, personal care items, and drinks to support those affected by the recent storms in our community.

We are grateful to see organizations and local partners come together during times of need, providing essential resources and helping neighbors recover and rebuild.

Thank you as well to the Merrillville Fire Department and Ross Township Trustee’s Office for helping coordinate these efforts and ensuring supplies reach those who need them most.

Acts of kindness like these remind us that when a community comes together, we are stronger together. 💙

🪭☀️ Keeping Cool and Getting Creative! ☀️🪭

The warmer weather has arrived, so this week our members got creative making their very own colorful paper fans! 🎨✨

From folding and decorating to showing off their finished creations, everyone had a great time putting their personal touch on these fun and practical crafts. Not only did they enjoy expressing their creativity, but they also left with a handmade way to stay cool on sunny days! 🌞

Activities like these help encourage fine motor skills, focus, creativity, and social connection while giving our members the opportunity to have fun and try something new.

We love seeing the pride on everyone’s faces as they show off their hard work. Great job, everyone! 💙

Summer is finally here, and we are excited to welcome a month filled with sunshine, smiles, and meaningful moments at Active Day Merrillville! 🌻💛

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, a time to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia while raising awareness and supporting the search for a cure. We encourage everyone to Go Purple on June 26th as we stand together in support of the millions of individuals and families impacted by this disease. 💜

🌱🌼 Garden Club Update! 🌼🌱

Our members and staff have been hard at work getting the Active Day Garden ready for a season of growth! From planting vegetables and flowers to watering and caring for our garden beds, everyone has been enjoying spending time outdoors and getting their hands in the soil. ☀️💚

Thanks to the generosity and support of our community, our garden is off to a wonderful start. So far, we have planted collard greens, tomatoes, butternut squash, basil, bell peppers, and summer squash, along with beautiful flowers to brighten up our center. 🌿🍅🌶️🌸

Gardening is a great way to stay active, enjoy nature, and watch something amazing grow from the ground up. We can’t wait to see what this season brings! So many members have mentioned how this brings back memories for them and they share lovely stories with us from their past.

Our creativity was blooming with today’s bean mosaic art craft! Members used colorful beans and paper to create flowers, houses, their initials and unique abstract designs full of personality and imagination.
