With the recent Flanders Wildfire in our area, we would like to share some important resources on how homeowners can help firefighters protect their homes and become Firewise!

Creating defensible space, reducing combustible materials around your home, and preparing your property ahead of time can make a huge difference during a wildfire emergency.

A few simple steps can help protect your family, your property, and first responders:
• Keep grass and brush trimmed
• Move firewood away from structures
• Clean leaves and pine needles from roofs and gutters
• Maintain accessible driveways for emergency vehicles
• Make sure your address is clearly visible from the road

🔥Flanders Fire 9:00pm update: 1,712 acres and 100% containment.🔥
This will be the last update unless fire activity changes.

For future public information inquiries please contact the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center at [email protected]

🔥Expect the Flanders Fire to Produce Interior Smoke and Heat for Several Weeks🔥

It is not unusual for the interior of the fire to continue to smoke and hot spots to persist. We expect that the Flanders Fire will continue to smoke for the next several weeks. Fire weakened and charred trees are unpredictable in their weakened state and can fall unexpectantly, making prolonged firefighting far inside the fire area dangerous for firefighters. Trees falling on firefighters is one of the most hazardous parts of wildland firefighting. Crews will continue to monitor, mop up, and patrol the containment lines to ensure that no new hazards appear that could compromise the safety of life and property.

If you live near or are visiting the recently burned area of the Flanders Fire, refrain from entering fire affected areas and watch out for overhead hazards from falling limbs and trees. On the ground, burnt out stump holes can lead to trips or falls and can hold hot ash and coals for a long time which could cause burns.

Feel free to report any new smoke or hot spots outside of the main fire containment lines, but please refrain from reporting smoke or hot spots located farther interior of the fire. It is just not safe to send firefighters far interior in large fire areas. Help keep our firefighters and yourself safe. Thank you!

100% contained!

100% contained!

As of tomorrow morning at 0700, the MNICS Type 3 Incident Management Team will officially transition management of the fire to a local Type 4 team. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, leadership, and countless hours this team, from across the state, has given over the last several days.

Because of the hard work of firefighters, support personnel, partner agencies, and entire community, the fire is now 100% contained. Thank you to everyone who played a role in protecting our communities, supporting one another, and working tirelessly through long days and nights to make this incident as smooth as possible!

We appreciate each and every one of you more than words can express!

Flanders sits at 95% containment, 1600+ acres, ZERO HOMES LOST, 5 days later we still have crews working and a day that will live with many.

We have a HUGE list of thank you notes to write. So many that it will take days.

To our community and the many communities that have reached out to help, thank you.

A special thank you to the Crosslake Fire Department, City of Crosslake, and many businesses in Crosslake. Crosslake opened up their doors majorly to help providing a shelter for those affected by the fire, opened their hall for local and state teams to work out of, and much more.

Lakes Area Heroes, Mission Tavern, Nisswa A&W, Schaefer’s, and all the other businesses and individuals who donated food and drinks, we thank you!!!

Minnesota Incident Command System - MNICS, Minnesota State Fire Marshal, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Brainerd, Crosby, Crosslake, Cuyuna, Deerwood, Ideal, Ironton, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, and the many other departments that assisted, THANK YOU!!!! Please tag the other departments who helped on Flanders!

Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, Crosslake Police Department, Breezy Point Police Department, and all other LEOs, dispatchers, and conservation officers, THANK YOU!

North Memorial Health thank you for providing ambulances to standby for our community and first responders as they evacuated their homes and battled the fire!

Another huge thank you to the Wives, husbands, and families of the firefighters! We couldn’t do it without you. From holding down the fort to the hugs when we get home safely. We are grateful for you all!!

If you are still looking for ways to help the fire departments, consider donating to them, or even joining them! Departments around the area are always looking for new members to join their teams!
